  1. They have a Virus? CUT THEM OFF. on Handling Viruses in an Uncontrolled Network? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Simple as that. If they are damaging the network then they are a threat to the network and even if they buy a super fast machine to compensate... yippee fucking do.

Anything that damages the network as a whole must be blocked. Revoke their DHCP access, or something similar (I don't know how the network is routed, so I can't give a more detailed answer.)

When they learn to not get infected, then they can use the network again. It is that simple.

However, if you are in a position where you cannot do this (then I would walk away personally...) then look into using something like Hogwash (Those guys need some devlopment help BTW (Hint Hint Slashdot community - Hogwash is a wicked project...))

I love the minority government we have right now though - our Prime Minister just denied a number of the White Houses requests because there could have been a forced election if he went against the will of the people. I hope it continues this way - bizzare concept I know - the will of the people driving things?

What is really sad is that much of our law is based on the changes that came about in the U.S. oh, about 200 years ago... (And English law as well)

I just signed up with a ton of online dating services, and got my name out there. After meeting (via email or MSN) about 250 women, I met this one. She is incredibly attractive, and she loves all the same hobbies I do (outdoors, kayaking, hiking etc) and hell, she even likes the "no I will not fix your computer" shirt from thinkgeek. That, and she used to run an Oracle server...

I could not be more pleased - still, I went through about 250 matches before I met her. Give it a shot, it worked for me. (Took about 6 months of searching, still it was all worth it! ) :)

  9. Could you use LED's in a projector? on LED Evolution Could Spell The End For Bulbs · · Score: 1

Home Theatre Projector lamps are, as you may know insanely expensive. Furthermore, in DLP projectors the light goes throug a RGB color wheel to produce the colors. Would it not be possible to use an array of RGB LED's in the projector set at the frequency of the color wheel? This way you remove the expensive (and very hot) bulb and you remove the moving part - the color wheel.

I saw on this website http://www.emanator.demon.co.uk/bigclive/makendo.h tm that you can also "overdrive" leds - that is increase their brightness if they are on for a very shortened period of time. Thus, you could possibly triple the output of the LED's without causing them damage.

Anyone out there consider this? Does this sound like a worthwhile DLP projector hack?

Velvet Acid Christ is great, I have not heard Hanzel und Gretyl yet - I will look them up.

IMO, the best Ministry album came out in 1988, which is often credited as the first industrial album, or at least, Ministry was the first industrial group. (Ministry started in 1981, but did not really become industrial until "Twitch" (1986), however, that album is barely industrial, and really just a little "electronic".)

The Land of Rape and Honey is really where Ministry took off, it is a great piece of work. The album after that, The Mind is a Terrible Thing To Taste is an excellent work as well.

If you dont have those two albums by Ministry, you are missing out on their best stuff. Some of the newer albums are good, but the Middle albums (Not including Skidoo23:Psalm 69) are not so great, but his style has come full circle with his latest release.

I got Land of Rape and Honey when it came out in 88. Ironically, I got it because a friend borrowed a cassette from a Ministry fan, and brought it to me with the words: "Listen to this track - this is the worst music I have ever heard."

It was of course the first industrial I had ever heard, and I ran out and bought the album!

I would argue that Ministry did this before NIN (while Trent and Al work closely together on multiple projects...)

Ministry's "Jesus Built My Hotrod" single (1991) was the biggest selling single in the year of it's release. This is long before Closer (off of The Downward Spiral - 1994) began to gain momentum with the club crowd.

Having said all that, both NIN and MINISTRY rock. If you like their music though - check out some others:

I managed to determine that out of the 4 nodes in my town, only mine was dropping packets, it had been doing so for 3 days, and nothing had been done.

I phoned the cable company to alert them to this problem:

Me: Hi, your node in (my area information) is dropping 30 percent of it's packets.
Tech: Can I have your account information?
    Me: I give him information.
Tech: Can you access the internet?

Tech: What version of windows are you running?
Me: What? I am not running windows, I am running Linux.
Tech: Oh, I can't give you support for linux, I am afraid I cannot help you with your internet issues.
Me: My system is working fine, I want your to tell the admins in your section that the node in my area is MALFUNCTIONING.
Tech: Everything seems to be working fine here.
Me: No, my node has 30% packet loss.
Tech: How do you know this?
Me: Because I am using tools under various Linux machines to check...
    Tech: We don't support Linux...
Me: I AM NOT ASKING YOU TO!!! I PHONED TO TELL YOUR COMPANY THAT ONE OF THEIR DEVICES IS BROKEN! MY COMPUTER IS JUST FINE THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
Tech: Oh... Oh... So you need second tier support?
    Me: Yes.
    ---
Get to second tier support: "Your node at place X is broken"
    Second Tier: "You sure?"
Me: "Checked with multiple Linux boxes, traceroutes, only this node is dropping packets."
    Second Tier: "Checking....
Hey, you are right, we will get right on this."

the only difference being: we do not sell the food, we are the food.

Highly Unlikely - here is why.

There are a number of "metals" and other elements and basic molecules that we require in small amounts in our diets. The reason that we require these small amounts is that during the process of evolution, these impurities (poisions actually) were present in the environment. Lead for example, was not common, therefore, it is a primary poison. However, trace amounts of things that are normally poisionous (i.e. arsenic) are present and required for us to function.

The specific concentrations of these elements would have to match the aliens concentrations closely (that is even assuming that they breathe oxygen instead of say, sulphur dioxide).

Our basic meals would likely be toxic to them - and so would our flesh.

They would not want us for food.

The only likelyhood of us being enslaved for "food" would be by a giant alien pharmaceutical company. Our complex molecules (read, all the complex molecules on the planet) may hold interest for them. However, if they have achived intergalactic travel, they probably have the technology to build any molecule that is physically possible to build as well.
