I don't live in the Bay Area, I do live in the Los Angeles area, not as obscenely expensive but not too cheap either and unfortunately, rising. The reason I live here rather than say, Oklahoma City is mainly the year around avocados and farm fresh vegetables. Also, I don't really dig all the fracking that goes on over there. The weather is fine for me, but the lack of sunshine really impacts the availability of produce. Yeah, we each have our own set of drivers, I'd love to be able to live in the Midwest, I think the people are great and of course housing prices are fantastic.
You've forgotten that we need to pay for our health insurance, plow money into a 401K (it would be stupid not to, right?). So that is all money that is sucked away as essentially taxes.
It's actually quite true in many states in the middle of the country. Even in California as long as you don't need to live in a large metropolitan area, you can get reasonably priced housing. Shop Oklahoma City OK, Pensacola FL and similar places on zillow.com and see for yourself. You can get a nice, nice house for no more than two year's salary.
That's fine, I'm sure there are others like you, but your tastes won't last past your generation and then the non-driving, non-polluting, accident-free human race will continue. Even if it gets outlawed, I'm sure that good enough simulators could be built that would surpass the real life driving experience you are accustomed to. Supercars, high-performance muscle cars that you can push to their edge and even past, because it's all software and haptic hardware. If what you enjoy is turning wrenches, then you might just have to get a volunteer job at a vintage museum; or work for Jay Leno.
The phrase when used is "hand waving", you didn't say "hand waving", thus I didn't catch that your goal was for me to react to "hand waving" so I went for the "frantic" accusation. How about if I had said "wave your hands in the air like you don't care"? Would you have caught that I was referring to your "hand waving"? Probably not. Lesson to you here lgw is, use phrases in their familiar form not some new random arrangement just because you were feeling rushed and afraid.
I was responding to the frantic nature of your emails, the visceral panic that transcends the words you write. Did you know that most of human communication is non-verbal? Probably not, being that your faux news echo chamber doesn't delve into topics that don't drive FUD, oh but those girl "news"-casters are hot so they must be right. Will you be hot because you watch and agree with them? No, but the aspiration of social proofing with such hotness keeps you on the treadmill.
Do you really feel you know me enough to judge me to be a non-scientist? The problem with the climate change debate is that the data is overwhelming and the models sketchy regarding long term predictions. The thing with models is that they are simplifications of reality by nature. Has Breitbart or "Faux News" invested the necessary effort to come up with a model that uses all available data which states that we can look forward to a rosy future? What would you, being the brilliant armchair scientist that you are propose we do other than make predictions and use the best available models?
Any thoughts on my health advice to you? I shouldn't care since we barely know each other but, I think that a healthier population is less expensive for society and also generally more compassionate.
I'm waving my hands frantically? You have a punctuation mark every six words, roughly. I have one about every 12 or so, therefore your writing comes off as much more frantic than mine.
Not unexpectedly, even your signature indicates what a panicked, fearful state you live in.
Take up meditation, yoga, tai-chi, anything to calm you down. Do you eat a lot of sugars and carbs and guzzle caffeine loaded drinks? Do you sleep less than your body needs? Those are some things that could be contributing to your current frenzied and panicked state. Oh, also watching Fox News, even network news in general could be making you think the world is much more threatening than it really is. Studies in fact, have shown that conservatives live in a much scarier world than liberals.
So, what you see in a thoughtful, intelligently written post is your anger and fear reflected back at you. I'll simplify it for you since apparently reading comprehension is not a strength of yours. It will be tough to make a switch now but doing so will make it better and in the long run less painful.
I think we got tRumpf due to the unethical and underhanded actions of both the DNC and the Clinton political machine. Had those not been in full effect, Bernie would have mopped the floor with the cheeto man-child in a general election.
Yeah, I completely agree too that with automated driving, everything would go smoother, cars would be flowed in and out nicely, all would brake in unison, like a big multitrack train. Linked by sensors and information rather than mechanisms. We could even work on the commute and count that as work time. Or learn stuff, or nap, shave, have breakfast, exercise...
Except, that I would have thought he'd actually have kept his promises about transparent government, closing Guantanamo, exiting existing worldwide conflicts, protecting the environment, advancing the rights of minorities, etc.
Yes, I want Trump with Bernie's Agenda. But an effective tRumpf, not one mired in disarray. With the existing evil tRumpf, the more chaos and less he actually does, the better.
If you want to lose fat, cut out all carbs and sugars from your diet, go full on ketogenic. Alternatively, you could skip eating two days a week, they don't even have to be two contiguous days.
I'm damn good in my late 40's. What is wrong with that? I was never an elite athlete but I would be surprised if I have lost a step or any strength. Not all of us become lethargic fat-fucks just because we haven't died. Mostly we do that by avoiding the cheetos and carbs and processed shit. Yeah, it is totally cool to take care of yourself; and it is not that ok to be a cheetos-eating, Mountain Dew drinking fat ass like that was some kind of programmer badge of honor.
If you can drive at 60 MPH in the snow, the snow was not heavy and clearly the roads were safe enough to barrel down. I strongly doubt many opted out in such mild weather.
or maybe the self-driving cars will have a mellowing effect. There will be such a large amount of them that the new normal will become to drive at or below the speed limit. Studies have shown that humans tend to follow what is believed to be normal behavior and this is established by what the current behavior is (yeah, a bit circular). For example, in Norway (I believe) convicted felons are permitted to vote and in fact, vote before the general population, this is seen as normal. In the USA, convicted felons are not permitted to vote, even after release (I think), this is also seen as normal. So, here's hoping that the self driving robot cars will make us all better drivers.
I'm sure the test engineers are pretty pissed off that they end up in the shit-hole that Arizona is rather than the land of milk and honey they could have been in.
if I owned a self driving car, and *if it were profitable for me*, I'd willingly put it to work at times when I wasn't working... kinda makes me wonder:
1) how do self driving cars, refill or recharge themselves? 2) what happens when my car breaks down in the middle of the road? How does it pay for the tow ?
1. This is a good question, maybe we'll go back to gas stations employing attendants rather than just cashiers? I could see charging being automated very easily if the plug location and shape were standardized, similarly for gas? 2. It contacts your AAA which is now tied to your car as well as your person and gets a tow, maybe it texts you for specific instructions if it hasn't got viable options programmed in already. AAA doesn't charge for tow destinations within a certain radius.
I totally want a car that drops me off at the store entrance then goes off to negotiate parking or picks up some passengers and makes us some money on the side while I am shopping.

I think you're doing it wrong. You could do better than that by going on welfare.
You've forgotten that we need to pay for our health insurance, plow money into a 401K (it would be stupid not to, right?). So that is all money that is sucked away as essentially taxes.
Yes, those also are taxes that get taken out of our salaries.
Yeah, because shore locations are infinite and tons of open boat slips are always available. Fractals, I guess...

Yes, exactly. I would have put that as a TL;DR.
I didn't think I was at all subtle with it so, why "Interesting"?
Meditation would do wonders for your ability to respond appropriately to stimuli. You sound like a heart attack waiting (not for long) to happen.

You are one kinky bastard!
So kewl! Maybe they can also arrange fines for those morons who litter from their car, I'm looking at you inconsiderate bastard smokers...

hey there! Keep both hands above the desk please

Yeah, because those uber cars totally freak out when they hear a gunshot or someone slaps their rear quarter-panel galloping off in a blind panic.
