Yes, 16,000 votes were tossed aside in this county in 96. Over 19,000 are at risk of being thrown out in this election. From what I have read that puts the throw away rate between 4 - 5%. And according to some sources this is not an unusual rate of 'invalidated' votes. If this were true nation wide we could extrapolate that there are in excess of 4 MILLION people who went out of their way to register and participate in our voting process, yet somehow we find it acceptable that we have NO IDEA what they said.

Unfortunately you did not describe what your expected usage would be. If you are likely to be working only in relatively major cities the sprint service may serve your needs, although I have personally had fairly bad experience with their phones and customer service. You are missing the point. Who cares if the state EC block votes with the population base? It is still not accurate. Most states participate in the winner take all variation. If one candidate gets 50000 votes and the other 37000 is it really the will of the people to have ALL EC votes for the winner? I do not think so. The EC has outlived its usefulness. We have the technology to accurately tabulate a popular vote, and it should be the sole decision making force behind the elections. Thus the candidates would truly have to fight for every vote, not just be concerned with the swing states.

Instead of going from worker bee to management, I have gone the other direction. I spent three years as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the Marine Corps [in charge of four, four-man fire-teams] to being the lead tech at a software company. Would have much problem in working around a filter, just as you would have no problem in locating a copy of DeCSS regardless of the wishes of Congress, the RIAA, or the courts [should they rule against 2600 on the 8th of August].
