I'd say no, in democratic politics nothing should be king, but science should definitely be part of the ruling body and not just part of the advisory board

well, it is a law, laws are ordained by those in power so their function is primarily to protect those in power, not 'the people' they govern, laws are mainly there to keep order (and those people in place), not to guarantee freedom since a law that guarantees freedom would be a bit of a contradiction in itself.
