  2. Understand your requirements on Ask Slashdot: Best Linux Distro For Computational Cluster? · · Score: 1

You're specifying a solution before you seem to really articulated your requirements. For example, you have identified the following:

    1) ...new cluster (smallish, ~128 cores)
    2) It has to have an X-windows server
    3) Implied use of a Linux distribution

These are all different aspects of the solution. What you should first do identify and document some use cases and some performance requirements. The closest you come to this is:

    A) User familiarity
    B) Remote access

But these alone are insufficient to justify any expense implementing a new system. Therefore, I suggest you don't upgrade and instead use the current system.

Absolutely: any moral human being should be intolerant of intolerance. That you see this as a bad thing speaks volumes about your own moral code.

And who exactly are you to tell me what I should or should not believe? Do you insist that I don't have the right to choose my belief system and world view, or do you instead believe the all powerful State or some other group of people should dictate to me my beliefs?

Homosexuality was once widely considered to be a mental disorder until the APA deemed it not to be one back in the 1970's. Exodus International happens to have disagreed with that decision and has acted in accordance the beliefs that it is in fact a mental disorder. That those screaming "Intolerant Bigot!" are demonstrating their own intolerance of an opposing view is somewhat telling all by itself.

After 9/11/01 the U.S. Federal Government was strongly criticized for not sharing information that could have alerted the proper agencies of that plot. There was some directive (either the Patriot Act or some executive order, I don't recall which) requiring agencies to share information so analysts could better "connect the dots". The notion of "Need to Know" was never really retracted, but augmented with the notion of "Need to Share". The thought was that everybody in the national security apparatus needed to know information that could somehow prevent another 9/11 type of attack. As result, SIPRNET became somewhat more open to those with access to it.

In light of the Manning case, the wisdom of this policy is now being seriously questioned and will likely be amended.

Before being granted access to classified information an individual must meet three criteria:

    1) Hold a current security clearance
    2) Possess a valid need to know
    3) Have signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)

Private Manning, if he's done what most suspect he's done, has violated the terms of the NDA he signed. He is therefore subject to the requisite prosecution under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice for violating the NDA.

If he hasn't been to trial yet, it's only because the case is still being built against him. The military will not prosecute him if they are unable to make a convincing case of his guilt. As soon as they have that case, Manning will then have his day in court.

Despite all of this, the newly-elected Congress has extended the 45 cent-per-gallon ethanol blending tax credit that was due to expire, a move that is expected to reduce revenue by $6.25 billion in 2011

(emphasis mine) I have to respond. The newly elected Congress is the 112th congres which as Bedouin X indicated has not yet been seated; it was his comment with which I sarcastically agreed. bkpark's comments actually agreed with this, though he clearly didn't see my comment as being in agreement.
