So on the one hand we had Auschwitz, but on the other --- hey, the US got nukes!
And with nuclear weapons, the power to prevent Auschwitz, Birkenau & Dachau from ever being rebuilt by anyone. The US is far from perfect, but it's not all bad either.
If I'm modded troll, it will be because of censors, most likely based in the US.
No, it'll be because you're trolling. The world is better of that the US developed nuclear weapons before the Germans, Japanese or Italians did.
What shape would the planet be in if Hitler had a few Hiroshima sized bombs at his disposal? Most of the people in the world today would have never been born, most of the people in the world who are currently over 65 would have been long since sent to the ovens. After they were done with the Jews, do you think that the Nazis would have closed the camps?
Why would the former president of the MPAA care about pirated or legal MP3s? As long as you're not watching a pirated copy of Brokeback Mountain on your video iPod, he wouldn't give a fuck.
Now you know why I'm very nervous about the military's development of autonomous combat vehicles. A self-piloting tank doesn't think to say "no" if Bush tells them to kill the liberals.
Quite true, that's the real danger of so called "smart" weapons. They're not that smart at all.
Believe me, plenty of the folks in my company would have had no hesitation about pulling the trigger on a civilian if so ordered.
The results of the USMC questionaire shows that the real military cares more about defending the constitution.
Ironically, we were stationed in Rampart. We had people coming up to us all the time to thank us for protecting them from the police. At the time I thought it was odd (and sad), until I found out they had very good reason to be afraid.
You sir, are obviously not black. Or a member of any other ethnic minority.
OTOH, I don't know what chance a handful of civilians with handguns have against a military with long-range missiles, tear gas, sonic weapons, etc.
You forget that the military personnel have all taken an oath to defend the US Constitution. If ordered to fire on American civilians, many of them will refuse.
I guess you don't remember the ruckus that was raised when the Clinton administration gave a survey to Marines asking if they'd be willing to fire upon American civilians in order to enforce gun control laws. Long story short, 75% of them said no. It's kind of alarming that 25% said yes.
You're joking with me, right? The development of atomic weapons was a good thing to come out of incitement of hatred?
The US getting them INSTEAD OF is a good thing.
You do realize, that if Nazi Germany hadn't been so hell bent on inciting hatred, nobody would have even needed nuclear weapons, right?
If, If, If... If you could lay eggs, you'd be a bird. We have to deal with reality as it comes. As things happened, the Nazis were evil and dangerous. It was good that we developed atomic weapons instead of them and it's well known that Hitler's scientists were trying.
I'm not so sure I'd rank the creation of a weapon that killed millions of civilians a particularly good thing.
Millions? Hardley. Thousands, yes. Those thousands of civilian deaths meant that hundreds of thousands more civilians would live. "Shock and Awe" is what convinced Hirohito(And the Japanese military) to surrender to the Allies. War is an ugly business and everybody does bad things.
During the course of my life, I have met holocaust avoiders. Women who were able to blend in and act as gentiles thus avoiding the train cars. They are mother and daughter, the father and son were taken in the night by Nazis.
Personally I have no doubt that the holocaust happened, but you're right about prohibiting the discussion. If the idea isn't allowed to be presented and dissected in public then it will grow and fester underground. There's just something about "Information that the government doesn't think you should have!" that draws people in.
How can an intellectual believe in magical faries, that the earth is six thousand years old, and that when you die you go to an afterlife, despite absolutely no evidence for any of that?
Where in the Bible does it say that the earth is any specific age?
We don't have any proof yet of the existance of certain subatomic particles, but many people believe in their existance as well. Ansence of evidence is not the same thing as evidence of absence.
There is some evidence of an afterlife, but not proof. People with past life experiences, who know things about places that they shouldn't. Like I said, it's not proof but it is evidence.
Clarence Thomas into the SC pretty much sealed that deal.
His decision to nominate Justice Thomas is what made me decide to look into Republican politics. When I learned enough, I decided that I was one of them.
BTW, It was a Democrat controlled Senate that confirmed Justice Thomas.
22+ years ago, my first language was BASIC. Later I moved on to C. Learning C made it really easy to pick up C++ and alter Java. I learned "just enough" to do what I needed to in VB6. When M$ discontinuted support for VB6 RealSoftware gave away free licenses for RealBasic. Now, when I'm doing anything simple I use RealBasic. Java and C++ are great for heavy lifting, but for simple tasks I prefer RealBasic.
Dear Republican National Committee: Would Hillary be a good president?
As a Republican, I sure do hope that the Democrats make her their 2008 candidate. It would be as good for us as it was for the Democrats when we ran Bob Dole in 1996.
The requirements for entering the US are so ridiculously more complex than any other country I've visited.
To be fair, there are more people wanting to come into the US and blow shit up than any other country. So it kind of stands to reason that it might be a little more difficult to enter.
If someone were involved in the shifting of huge amounts of funds around and planning the next WTC, Pentagon, Waco or Bali bombing, you mean you all wouldn't want to know about it?
You mean that people actually PLAN to have the federal government violate their civil rights and then murder them?
Usually it's money laundering you get accused of, and a HUGE number of money laundering cases (legit ones) are drug related. I want to say the limit is either $7k or 10k cash.
When I was a kid, I went with a friend and his dad to buy a Porche. He went to the bank first and got out a load a cash to make his down payment. If he had been pulled over on the drive from the bank to the car dealership why should he have had to explain anything to anyone?
Technically it SHOULD be an easy charge to beat, IF you got the money legitimately. If you didn't, or don't have a paper trail ("My friend loaned me $10 grand for...."), have fun!
The problem is that we're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. You don't have to explain anything. Unless they have PROOF that you did something illegal, keep your mouth shut.
This is usually not a good idea. Users will mix up their accounts and you'll end up with corporate e-mails sent from personal accounts and vice versus.

Imagine Jack Valente[SIC] with an MP3 player.
Why would the former president of the MPAA care about pirated or legal MP3s? As long as you're not watching a pirated copy of Brokeback Mountain on your video iPod, he wouldn't give a fuck.
Now, Imagine Hilary Rosen with an MP3 player.

Bill Clinton helped launch the company behind the engine, which is also backed by the Chinese Government.
Yeah, it's affiliated with two obvious sources for true and unbiased information.
Perjury and oppression of the masses, way to go Accoona!

Absolutely nothing good has ever come of allowing hatred to spread and flourish.
How about this?
The US Developed Atomic weapons first because Jewish scientists (couch, cough, Einstein) weren't so well welcomed in Germany at the time.

I like the Earthship concept, but I also like the geodesic dome and a pyramid.
In the event that I ever win the Powerball, I'll be building one of them.

Gregor Mendel was a Christian monk. That doesn't mean that he was bound by any church doctrine as he explored the world of genetics.

There is something utterly wrong about the words Christian and Science being next to each other.
Why? Because you don't understand the distinction between literalists and real intellectuals who also happen to be Christians?
