I guess the fact that as a child I want to "Westinghouse middle school" which was right next door to the "George Westinghouse Museum" caused me to learn about this before most other geeks did.
I'd say that there were two golden ages. One being the one you mentioned with Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Bump n Jump, Xevious, Sinistar, Rally-X, and Publius(ok, that one's a joke).
But there was a second golden age. Mortal Kombat/MKII, Killer Instinct, Tekken and the early SFII games. I dropped many an allowance on those games.
My rise to stardom at the local Mall began when the resident Asian kid was afraid to play against me.
That's not intended to be a racist statement, but every mall that I ever played at had one asian kid who would kick everyone's ass when they plunked their 50 cents into the machine. Ours was "Ming", he worked at the food court at the Manchu Wok. On his breaks he would come up to the arcade and play. He's spend 50 cents and beat people until his dad made him go back to work. When I got good, he had to bring up more than 50 cents when his break began.
One more session at KI? Where, oh where are you Ming Doggy Dogg?
There are 500 million cars in the world, convert them all to run on soybeans and you can't magically develop capacity, because it requires real-world surface area that does not exist and can not be increased.
Who's saying that all of the cars in the world have to be converted.
Dude, it's already produced in large enough scale that you can buy gallons of it in any supermarkt; and hightened demand will only raise the price.
It will raise prices in the short term, but in the long term prices would come down. More capacity would be developed if this caught on. All of the oil that currently gets dumped down drains at fast food places would start getting recycled.
In the end, it probably would never get anywhere near the current price of gasoline but it would certainly get cheaper than it currently is. Of course this is all predicated on a pretty big IF.
Certain Mac models are more expensive than comparable Dell (or Levono) models, and vice versa.
I'd never buy a Dell either. The difference is that I can and have built my own Windows/Linux PC that is faster, cheaper and more reliable than an equivalent Dell.
My grandmother has been waiting for a new kidney for about three years. Fortunately dialysis still works for her and her kidneys aren't completely non-functional yet. However if I could buy a kidney for her, I'd be very tempted.

I don't mind a little violence, but why does every game have to simulate a nightmare or a crime to be worth playing? I just don't understand. I'd appreciate it if someone explained it to me.
Simply, people want to do something different in their game lives. Hell, even in The Sims my people have lives that are different than mine. As different as possible.
Violence just helps to blow off steam. When some asshole cuts you off in traffic, you can relieve yourself by blowing the head off of a digital asshole on your screen.

That game for me was GunGrave. Nice game, but far, far to short to be $70 worth.
For me it was Command & Conquer 2. I only paid about $50 for it, but I was highly pissed when I realized how bad the game was. I have been reluctant to buy any game at launch since then.
I just bought Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, and it is FANTASTIC for the $15.98 that I paid for it.
From now on, it's bargain bin only when I buy games.
Enigma wasn't cracked because of weaknesses in the algorithm(although those do exist), it was broken because of the German's sloppy cryptography practices and the fact that the allies found out what process they were using to determine their keys.
If a cop is wearing body armor, it doesn't mean that he can walk out into a torrent of incoming bullets. Chances are that one of those bullets will find a weakness in his armor, or simply strike him in a place where he's not protected. Similar principle here.
Lots of people will. OGG is better than MP3 in every way.
In the same way that the Sega Master System was better than the NES. The NES was launched a few months earlier and had such a headstart that Sega could never catch up. Same deal with the Saturn and Dreamcast versus the Playstation. Betamax was "better" than VHS too.
Being "better" doesn't mean much if everyone likes your competition better.

It takes a lot to get me to pay more than $20.00 for a game. When a game is particularly interesting or good I will, but I'm not going to buy a game at launch if the price is $69.99. It simply isn't going to happen. Also, I don't own a console, so any games I get are PC games. I don't see the draw in paying so GD much for a console or the games for it.

Seriously, I got my start with RedHat linux 4.2 on a 33mhz 486 Gateway 2000 with 8 MB of Ram and a 250 MB Hdd.
From day 1 I knew how much more responsive linux was on older hardware.
Sure, it was a dog on big tasks but as the router/fileserver I built out of it it was as good as any Pentium class machine would have been.

Not if you have a legit key.
If you use a legitimate key and the Corporate version of XP, you can download updates at your leisure.
So basically, if you bought XP Pro, but don't want to have to reactivate it everytime you swap a mobo, that's the way to go.
