    is a robot that kills and uses living things really all that good of an idea? Sure, flies are annoying and can really ruin a picnic, but someting about arbitrarily deciding that they are not worthy of life somehow seems wrong.

    Other Islamic countries see our invasion of Iraq and its flimsy justification as a show of power that could be wielded over any moslem country simply at our will.

    Iraq may have been an Arab nation, but it was NOT a muslim nation.

    This use of force to achieve our goals is a threat to cultures and nations not explicitly on our side. It encourages more war.

    I opposed the Iraq war. You'll get no argument from me on that point.

    I think you're awfully optimistic to think that our leaders can have family ties to foreign leaders without it affecting our policy. We should be putting pressure on the Sauds to change their ruling policies.

    Time and time again trade, meaning money, is the most effective tool to encourage change. How'd the world end apartheid in South Africa? Trade sanctions.

    Al Quada RESENTS the presence of American troops on Holy land. The House of Saud, as the ruling family of Arabia, are charged with being the guardians of Islam. Since they allowed non-believers to maintain a constant presence there, they are seen as traitors by hard core Islamists. That means they are on the same side as us.

    To merely mention the association and give no further explaination is to exploit inuendo and anti-arab/anti-muslim prejudice.

    The Bush family doesn't have ties with the House of Saud nor are billions of dollars being poured into the pockets of the VP's former company.

    Gee let me think. Both the Father and a son have lead the country that is the biggest customer of their biggest export and another of the sons of that family may go on to lead that nation someday. Why does it surprise you that both of these families have had reason to communicate with one another?

    Which is exactly what we were saying when the "Campaign Finance Reform" debate was going on.

    We were called paranoids. The media are neutral. The only report facts. It's stupid to think that they might try to help the candidates that they prefer.

    Now that it's law, what we said would happen is happening. Hollywood liberals are producing propaganda films and portraying them as documentaries.

    There's even a Documentary on AMC about how Republicans in Hollywood are blacklisted, like Communists in the McCarthy Era.

    For example, the FOX network airs shows that are very racy, and basically offensive to conservative values. Why? It's profitable.

    What conservative values are those? We aren't what you see on TV, Conservatives are a diverse group.

    You've got old money white guys like Rupert M., you've got immigrant Cubans, people in the Bible belt, Log Cabin Republicans and all kinds of others. We're all different. The one thing that unites us is the belief that the Republican party will do more good for our causes than the Democrat party.

    It's just a higher level of optimization. Altivec instructions allow the computer to deal with 128 bit word sizes. So if the instructions are properly coded, it's kind of like performing 4 32 bit instructions at once.

    ee wtf ? 800MHz PPC faster than 2GHz XP ? dont think so

    If I remember correctly, the Altivec instructions in the DNet client were hand coded in assembly for the fasted possible execution on G4 processors. In just about every other comparison, the 800mhz G4 wouldn't be faster than a 2Ghz XP, but it's possible in this case.

    Then you're wasting your vote. Face it, neither abortion nor federal gun control legistlation is likely to change one bit in the next four years no matter who is elected president.

    You don't pay attention if you believe that.

    Bill Clinton and George W Bush made symbolic gestures as their first official actions in office. Clinton removed the "global gag rule" about abortion. Bush reinstated it. Next week the Clinton Gun Ban is going to sunset, it would have been renewed had Al Gore become president.

    I'm opposed to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as well, but because of the Democrat's stand on the issues that are most important to me, I have to vote for Bush.

    I voted for President Bush in 2000, I am going to vote for him again in 2004.

    You want to know my reasons? I'm a two issue voter. I vote on gun control and abortion. In that order.

    The Democrats are in favor of both. I can't vote for a Democrat president. I will be voting for whatever Democrat is running against Arlen Specter. I feel that Specter votes and behaves like a Democrat in the Senate, so we might as well have a real Democrat in the seat.

    The problem with viral campaigns like VoteOrNot is that it is too easy to have multiple on-line personalities. In these days, nobody has one email account... it's easy for one person to be a ton of people online. That's the problem the company will have.

    They ask for your name, address and telephone number in addition to your email address. Most people don't have multiples of all of those too.

    I don't think it was done by an editor. Because over a series of monthy, my posts would sit for about a week and then all of a sudden 5 of them would be modded down at the same time. This would go one week after week. I even had an AC posting replies to my messages to taunt me about it.

    Robert Rozeboom took care of the karma bombing, but I still can't moderate. It's been over a year since he put a stop to it.

    I suggest that the political section of Slashdot use a moderation system that is seperate from normal karma and moderation.

    Rob, you KNOW as well as I do that in the political section, it will be common practice to moderate people based upon their politics. It happens right now in the YRO section.

    I suggest that moderation should occur so that GNAA, Frist Post, 123 Profit and all of the other bullshit posts can be taken down but if someone presents a valid but unpopular opinion, they don't have to have their karma ruined.

    My Karma was trashed because of politics. A few years ago I said something to draw someone's ire and I was karma bombed. My karma was reduced to the point where I couldn't post anymore.

    Having a UK phone number isn't going to make a difference in the price you pay to call from the US to the UK anyway, it will only affect people calling in the other direction.

    If it's VoIP and I'm assigned to an exchange in the UK, it will definately be cheaper for me to call around the UK than it would be for me to make a regular telephone connection there.

    You can call those numbers from the states anyway - there's no restriction.

    I can't afford to. Transatlantic telephone calls are outrageously expensive.
