I had a Sinclair ZX-81 with OS and BASIC language in ROM. It was the first in a series of machines I owned in which the OS and BASIC were either included in onboard ROM or came on a ROM cartridge that plugged in.
Sony inhabits a small but select club for me - companies who's products I outright boycott. Some companies have made it on my list due to shitty products, some due to shitty customer service, some due to shitty business/social/environmental policies, and some due to various combinations of all the above.
I think that I may hate Creative just slightly more than Sony due to profound psychological trauma I suffered as a result of their hardware and drivers... but Sony ranks right up there.
I also would be against IT Unions--on the mere basis that (like SatanicPuppy said) my connections would outweigh my skills.
Most times, union or non-union, connections outweigh skills anyhow. I can't count the number of people I've dealt with professionally who talk a good game, know all the right people, and fuck up 90% of the things they touch.
In Richard Florida's book Who's your city? he actually gets into various theories about how centers of excellence (whether fashion, IT, finance, science, etc.) tend to create a self-reinforcing "buzz" that draws in more and more talented people, and the intellectual atmosphere and other elements of creative infrastructure then allow those people to achieve at a higher level than they otherwise could.
So according to that theory, yes, the LHC does emit some sort of field...
Honest question - without resorting to answers like "if it's not running Linux it's zombied" I'd be curious to know how the average user can even determine whether their box is pwn3d.
How do I encrypt a conversation with my family? Use pig latin?
"iHay oneyHay! owHay asWay ourYay ayDay?"
When the FBI talks about spying they mean spying. They aren't going to stop at snooping your email. They're going to bug your phone. They're going to snoop your physical mail. They're going to go through your banking records. If you raise sufficient attention (say by encrypting your trivial email) they may even park a black van down the street with a bunch of electronic equipment in the back.
Personally, these Olympics have been full of pretty amazing feats by several athletes from my own country (Scotland/UK) and other countries and I've found them enjoyable to watch.
Agree to a point, but there have been several instances where the judging was just painfully bad [/canadian viewpoint]

Man, I just realized how old I'm getting ...
I'll tell you what's future-proof ... Duke Nukem Forever ... that's future-proof.
This should be fun, and by fun, I mean a wholly depressing insight into the cognitive ability of some grown adults.
Let me know when you're done with this quote so I can use it as my sig. Thanks!

you don't want to see what the Japanese quarks are up to.
Bukkuarke?
Who has time to read 5000 words?
You just need to break the task down and come up with a manageable work plan - if you tackle 5 words a day, you'll be done in less than 3 years.
I think it's slightly depressing
Some marijuana ought to cheer you right up!
Must have missed that ... can you find a reference to it?
Smoking marijuana helps everything
... or just invade Taiwan and take over VIA.

Try shooting at a lower ISO ... the generally accepted advice for reducing camera noise.
I should think that sending such threats over email is probably a federal crime, and the people doing this are going to be hosed if they get caught.
I'm sure the authorities in various cities of the former Soviet Union are going to get right on that. I expect a series of arrests imminently.

They can spam you with it but they can't use it for anything else
Actually, in addition to spamming you, they can use your email address in the from and reply-to field for their next spam run.
Ask me how I know.
Can't speak for others, but when I say newsreader I mean something like this.
Knowing nothing about iPhone I have to ask, can it run a newsreader client? p2p client?
To compete with Intel would just be futile.
Hopefully we won't be saying the same about AMD in another few years.
Take off every Ziggurat! Move Ziggurat for great justice!
When your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like an annoying piece of loud plastic shit.

This begs the question - if an Iranian astronaut dies because they can't bring him down successfully, does he still get his 40 virgins?
