Yes, in the grand scheme of things, the 80 years you're here don't mean a damn thing... but we don't live in the grand scheme, we live in our bodies. So we will continue to do what it takes to get by in our own corner of reality.
There's nothing wrong with that, and there's nothing 'deep and mysterious' with the whole "It's all meaningless" nonsense. I understand it, but as a person who enjoys airconditioning, internet, and food, my meaning is to keep the world going.
She's one of those people... the people who use as many big words as they can because it distracts from what they're saying. That's horrifying.... she has no idea what she's saying.
Holy crap did you actually read what you were linking? I hope you're not a Palin supporter.
I mean... "In fact, Palin asked for the resignation of a handful of department heads to test their loyalty, according to reports at the time."... wtf is that?
Look whatever. I don't know what she is and neither do you. You don't know a damn thing about her because McCain's worried she's going to sound like a moron when the press get ahold of her. She was brought out for a show, danced around to get peoples attention, and then told to shut up because the big boys were talking. I can only imagine how pissed off women would be about that.
She's the mayor of a small town, less then 2 year governer of alaska, and she's a religious nut. (sorry if I offend anyone who thinks the world is 6000 years old, but it isn't). That's about all we really know for sure aside from the letters from people in alaska talking about her... which haven't been pretty.
I'd love to see her get out and debate... maybe her and Biden can talk tomorrow since McCain just now realized that the economy sucking makes a good photo op. If McCain keeps changing his stances to do what Obama does, he may as well just vote for him.
(sorry for the rant, but just yikes, that whole thing is messed up)
At some point, there has to be reality or exsistance is meaningless... and because I know some 'intro to philosophy' college brat is going to say "well it is", I'm going to go ahead and say "Then mass-suicide if there's no meaning". If it's meaningless then you shouldn't bat an eye at ending it.
I enjoy reality as I can see it, and while it's subjective to the way we see it, it's still there. It's sickeningly egotistical to think that just because you can't understand it perfectly it isn't real.
She didn't try to ban books outright... rather she asked the librarian "Would you ban a book if I told you too" and then after asking 3 times, she threatened to fire her because she didn't feel she had the librarys support.
Don't get facts crossed, reality is scarier then fiction.
Reality is fact: Gravity, Inertia, those are facts.
Whatever is in your head are NOT facts... even how you preceive actual facts. Knowlage is really the only determining factor between wild speculation and at least a partially correct view. Another key is being willing to adjust what you think is real as new evidence is supplied.
Short version: Anything you have an opinion about is subjective; but reality itself doesn't give a shit what your opinion is and wilie e coyote will still fall like a rock after stepping off a cliff.
I prefer the 3rd partys, HOWEVER, I also know this election is going to be very close. This country can not handle another Bush, as it is Obama (assuming he wins) is going to be a 1 term president because he's going to have to piss off a lot of people to fix this mess.
I'll vote for 3rd party when there's a sane person who's has a chance to win... not this year. Get me an election where one of the two main cantidates isn't deadly to our future and I'll include the partys that can't win in my choices. This election is too important to try to make a point.
And here we tinker with metal, to try to give it a kind of life, and suffer those who
would scoff at our efforts. But who's to say that, if intelligence had evolved in some
other form in past millennia, the ancestors of these beings would not now scoff at the
idea of intelligence residing within meat?

You could earn $500 a week working clubs (if you're very lucky). Of that money, you pay the whole band, eat, fix equipment, and so on.
The RIAA shows up, and offers to show your material to everyone in the country with their advertising, which means instead of a bar's worth of people, you have a country full... but they get 1/2 your money and get to decide what you write music about (prepare for angsty teen drama).
Still a net gain financially... even if it means your giving up creativity and freedom for it. Just depends if the artist finds writing and preferming their own music more important then money.
Possible fixes to the system? Independant website that works kind of like Pandora... mods mark a song with certain genres, people listen, vote for songs with a simple 'thumbs up or down' option, pay the artist based on how often his song is listened to (obviously more $$ if the song is good), people who don't suck get paid, people who do suck don't.
And yes, exploitable... bugs would need ironed out... but it's 9am, lucky I can type this early...
Do you own a senetor? Do you realize the amount of effort that you have to go to in order to care for and feed your own pet lawmaker? Quit being selfish, those people paid a fortune for their version of the law.
Hasn't it been shown that a large cable dragging thru the atmosphere generates static electricity at an alarming rate? I remember nasa or someone doing an experiment where they dropped several thousand feet of cable into the atmosphere and it glowed brightly enough to see from the ground, and then burnt itself and snapped. So long as this thing is less resistant then air, I would think it would build a charge and be at the least magnetic and at the most crazy dangerous.
Even if not for the static, then I would expect it to be a lighting rod.
I'm not an expert of course, so any clarification would be appreciated
You ever play Civilization on a harder setting, and get busy with a few wars? Even little ones, but you're moving your units over and it's taking time and funding which adds up... then all the sudden another race starts building the wonders?
That's usually a sign the game is about to go downhill fast if you don't get your crap together and focus on your tech tree.
I could tell you, but the hunt is half the fun! A worthy porn collection isn't a destination, it's a journy.

I had a similar problem with an empty box received. Unfortunatly, by time I found the book my whole family had been killed.
I tried contacting amazon, they just said it's a known issue and refered me to the users manual, which was unfortunatly IN THE BOX... people just don't think
Left online, I upload at about 40kb/s
that is 100gb/month, just in uploads.
Downloads tend to be about the same amount as uploads, if not more. I also enjoy watching TV online, heavy gaming, and a number of other things.
Online gaming uses a good amount of bandwidth, figure about 10gig a month between two users. General internet usage adds up. Then of course online TV and radio...
All in all, I could see hitting 250g. I'll be cutting uploads to 30kb/s, which will leave me more elbow room.
It's not the end of the world, but it's an issue that should be fixed by improving the system not by limiting the users. Right now it's easy to adjust slightly to work with them, but what about that new tech just over the horizen which will better our world, but be fought because the limits keep getting set lower?
Am I mistaken in thinking that there's an easy loophole?
the electorial college doesn't have to vote for whoever won the popular vote in a state legally. So they just do their election, read the votes and vote for McCain like they were going to anyway. Doesn't matter if McCain's on the ticket or not, it's not like Texan's actually think about which to vote for. (no offence, but it's been red since '76, and that was an odd election)
So then you agree. Rep/Dem are above the law.
Good to know our laws are just decoration for the dance of millionairs. I'd always suspected they thought it was, I didn't realize our citizens had accepted it. I guess that's the result of growing up and seeing it around us... for the last 40, 50, 60 years the gov't does what it wants, and everyone younger then that age just thinks that's okay.
Now I work in a hospital doing biomedical research
This is actually the field I'm working to get into currently. Don't suppose I could contact you to discuss your job a little? Odd request I know, but I don't know anyone personally who is in the field. I'm still early in my college and have room to fix anything I've messed up already.
I love that... hope you don't mind if I use that to shut up some idiots in philosophy.
If existence is meaningless why do you eat?

No wonder McCain wants her to shut up
Nazi: What does the diary tell you that it doesnt tell us?
