  1. Re:Not a chance on Brain vs. Computer: Place Your Bets · · Score: 0

Actually you're wrong. Each side has the following moves at start;- 8*Pawn - 1 space or 2 2*Knight - 2 options This gives you 20 moves for the first. The 2nd move could have (if the pawn between the Queen & Bishop was moved first time);- 7*Pawn - 1 space or 2 1*Pawn - 1 space more 2*Knight - 2 options 1*Bishop - up to 5 spaces? 1*Queen - Up to 5 spaces? This gives 29 moves 2nd time. The number then carries on increasing each move as the board opens up - it doesn't stay at a fixed level of 16 moves!!

Sorry, but does that surprise you?? On a 'standard' 10Meg Ethernet link, you are very lucky to get as much as 6Meg (and that's as a sole, switched device. On a shared segment, you would also be lucky to get as much as 2Meg to each individual machine.

Bay (sorry, Nortel) Networks sell a unit called a BayStack 600. It gives you a small box at the core with a 10bT / 10b2 connection to whatever you want, then you run PCMCIA cards in your remote PCs. There is no need for a PC at the hub, but it may be out of the price range of the average home-user.

I think you're missing the point that Stephen Hawkings was trying to make. He said that;- ". If we could travel faster than light we could go back in time. We have not seen any tourists from the future. That means that..." He is saying that if it was possible, we could reasonably expect to have seen people from the future coming back to our time for whatever reason. I've already posted this on the Phillip Island page, so maybe I'll get a response from there. As we've suddenly all become so 'concientous' (sp?), is there anywhere that we can adopt/sponsor a penguin via a zoo, wildlife center or similar?? Surely having a picture of a real-life Tux would be far better (if not more cool {sic}) than having a stuffed toy by your monitor. Also, we would be paying your sponsorship each year, thereby ensuring the continued survival of these little critters for years to come and doing our bit to 'save the planet'. Just a thought - maybe someone out there has some knowledge or a contact for this sort of thing. .sig removed by humor-detector. Can't have any of that around here!!

How do you come to the conclusion that 50 attacks per day is not possible. Diven the number of people on the face of the planet with access to computers, how many of those do you think might find it fun to 'hack' the US military for the fun of it. I reckon that 50 attacks per day is probavly vey easy to come by. I'm on-line for maybe 3 hours per day (the rest of the time I'm behind a corporate firewall), and I can count on at least 2 scans each day on my PC.
