Seriously. We have these NFC systems all round London - predominantly with the 'Oyster' card system that's used for public transport and stuff. You see all these people in the busy rush-hour waving their hands wildly in the direction of the reader to register their card. I can just imagine the scenario if the same people start waving their £500+ iPhones around 2-3 feet away from their body - thieves everywhere will be rubbing their hands with glee and just hanging around near the readers to grab the phones away from these people and disappear into the crowd with them. They won't get caught on the myriads of CCTV cameras either as they around when they steal wallets, purses and the like.
Are you trying to suggest that we shouldn't have anonymity because the bad side of it outweighs the good? I'd take the assholes, criminals and general wankers all day long as long as it means that people can have the ability to let the world know what is really going on in their various industries, countries, whatever-elses. If we were to have the ability to be anonymous removed then the world would be a far, far worse place. Anonymity is like everything else - what it achieves depends on what you decide to do with it - good or bad.
Much as a lot of adults buy these flash-type games, so that we can play them on our iPads, phones, PDAs or whatever to while away a few hours sat on the train to work or stuck in a hotel room on business, they will never replace the 'traditional' game market. When I get home and have a bit of time to myself I won't sit on the settee with my phone screen - I'll fire up my desktop PC with its 26" HD screen and play a real game. Also, there's no way on earth I'm going to let my young kids play games on my £600+ touch-screen phone - they can use the Wii or X-Box - then the worst damage they are going to do if they drop a controller or get sticky fingers on things is cost me £20 for a new controller. If they did the same to my phone I'd be stuck.
I was impressed when reading TFA (Yep, I actually read it for a change) to find out how advanced the original 'Creeper' virus was. It had artificial intelligence and everything - read again... "...and starts over, thereby hoping from system to system". It only 'hoped' from one system to the next - that's cool.
The way things seem to be going, it doesn't matter if you are a jerk, a terrorist, a fine upstanding member of the community, or even a citizen of a different country - 'They' get to twist the law in whatever way they want to achieve whatever aims suit them at the time.
Can't we have some kind of "STORY" to go with this, rather than just a tag-line and a video. If that was a company advertising (spamming) by that method we'd all be slating them for overusing bandwidth, wasting our time etc...
I saw the headline and immediately thought of Terminator, but was sadly disappointed to end up with one line and a video that I won't watch - is this really news?
I'm not convinced that we get enough sun here in England for half the year. Given how cool and useful this technology could be, it would be nice to see this table built with a mains lead as well, so that when the sun isn't out the table would still recharge your gadgets, but would automatically use the solar power instead when it could. It would be most annoying to have this at home, stick my phone on it to charge when I get home, but then have to plug my phone back into the mains overnight if it hasn't got enough charge.
How the hell has he "extorted" money out of anybody? I don't particularly like Microsoft - although I have to say that the money Bill Gates has given to charity would never have been given by the original owners of it so he must be doing some good. Yeah, MS has had a virtual monopoly, but it's still not extortion. People have the choice whether they buy his products or not - if they feel that strongly, they could have bought Apple hardware and software and spent even more money or they could have got into supporting the Linux community 20 years ago and then the whole world would probably be running on free software.
"tools are an important aspect of social engineering, but they do not make the social engineer. A tool alone is useless; but the knowledge of how to leverage and utilize that tool is invaluable."
I guess I don't need to read the book now that he's said that sums up the entire book. It's a bit like telling me who died at the end of the last Harry Potter book (and no, I haven't read it)
I'm on VM's fibre broadband service (only the basic 10Meg) and I cannot find anything to complain about at all. Sure, if I had more bandwidth then I could probably use it for downloading more things that I'll never get round to listening to, watching or playing as I have a finite amount of time to actually spend doing things.
I remember only a few years ago when I had an ISDN line installed at home as a requirement for work so I could connect to remote client sites directly from Cisco or Nortel routers. I also used this service for my own Internet connection, which meant I was able to bond the 2 channels and get 128Meg clean throughput with almost instantaneous connection from an ISDN modem. Back then the normal modem speed was 28k, and 33.6k was just about happening, but not standardised. My mates thought it was incredible the speed I could get compared to their dial-up lines.
We have progressed so far since then, yet people still moan. Unfortunately bandwidth is not free - no matter how fast it goes to your house, the ISP and then the backbone has limited resources. If we genuinely want the 'net to achieve its true potential as a thing of 'good for humanity', then we will have to accept some form of traffic shaping. Why not throttle the P2P / NNTP traffic during the day, but allow it to ramp up overnight (say 1am -6am while most people in this country are asleep)? There could still be shaping on the pipes out of the UK, so other nations can then determine their own timings for the throttling.
All in all - why must we always moan? We have so much now, yet we are never satisfied.
You made the mistake of using the "T..." word in relation to trolls yet again. I wonder how many millions the famous dead author's estate has made so far, just from catching people on/. misusing a name that they claim copyright on?
The screenshots of GNOME 3 make me glad that I went with Mint GNOME, rather than going for the KDE desktop purely for its looks. I like the look of the new GNOME and can't wait to test it out. The loss of minimize/maximize doesn't worry me in the least as I almost always run windows at full-screen and I have no doubt that I can continue to use a keyboard shortcut to 'wipe' the screen and hide all open applications whenever I want to. That, linked with 'ALT'+'TAB' to switch back to the application I want will do me just fine.
What the f*ck would be the point of that?? You'd be paying 399 (insert currency here - £, $, etc) for a mediocre DVD player - I paid a lot less than than for mine which does 5.1, optical audio out, multi-region, etc..... ad nauseum. Why would anybody want to buy a PS2 just as a DVD player??

Only Intel? Are you one of those fanboys? Don't AMD saves lives too?

Well... As I'm married now, I don't expect to be doing that again - but you never know.
Seen one? I've slept with a moose wearing a dress before now.

What freaking recession? I guess they haven't heard of it.

Would they be known as the 'Moogle Team', or am I going to get sued by Square Enix for copyright theft by using that name?

666 - are you sure? I thought that scholars had decided the true 'Number of the Beast' was far more likely to be 616 (hexakosiai deka hex).
But, to give credit where it's due, that is still 'Over 600'.
do you know who would even want to go to the opera?
Oops - guess I should have RTFA properly first.

OK then - first post to get a '-1' score anyway ;-P
to end up in the bin??

...is the day I can customise this stuff with my own choice of graphics. Then I can wipe my arse with whoever I choose (think Al Gore!!)
The possibilites are endless.
.....This will be her last post??
