This whole issue was partially brought about by Gnome Office and its similiarities to MS. What people are comfortable with is what people have used....which in most cases is MS Windows and Office. Office and Windows have created what we now see as standards to what the proper Aplications should be...and where the buttons should be...everything down to the shortcut keys. Any coincidence that Starwriter's default shortcut keys are almost identical to MS Office...similiar to the fact the shortcuts for IE were made practically identical to that of Netscape.
This raises this question for me...Does the Linux community need to come up with more unique packages that develops themselves as the precedents for others? Are we stuck labeling everything as a functional free copy of a Windows program until then? That seems to be the trend.
I don't know about you all...but I am not one to read the "FOR DUMMIES" series of books. Well...Let me just let you all know...I was in a Borders last weekend and saw the "MCSE for Dummies" book and I haven't stopped laughing yet. the day they make an RHCE for dummies I think I will blow up the for dummies headquarters out of respect for Redhat. just my $.02
As a current college student...I feel as if I am wasting my time (not money...thank God for scholarships) on a time when there is a lot of partying and little education...all to get a piece of paper that says I am know some theory but have no real application.
At one of these college....would you still get that piece of paper? Or just a picture of it?

They have a place and a box for this...its the freshmeat slashbox...I think it defaults as being on there. And if you will note...the 2.3.48 was before slashdot...i think Rob and others may post these things for input on the kernel...not just to announce it. Hence the reason for his commenting on the integrated PCMCIA... just my $.02
Billy Gartes(name changed to protect the innocent...) announced yesterday that they will be releasing their last stable source code of Windows... Only problem is...it was Win 3.11:)
Actually...this is an interesting off the topic thing...there was an owned piece of land behind my house when I was a kid...never taken care of and actually hurt the land value of everyone's houses nears. So my parents started taknig care of it. 15 years later my father filed a petition for ownserhip of the land, and he was allowed to buy it for a very very very low price. He never owned it before then. Just moved in and had proof he took care of the land. Ohh well..thats my 2 cents.
I wasn't real sure on this one...so I called my uncle who is a copyright lawyer. He says that if a company begins letting people use their trademark without giving them credit, they may very well lose any trademark battle they have. So, although those themes may have been made out of respect...if Apple takes someone to court for using their trademark because it was done negatively, there is a good chance that by throwing the fact that others use their trademark without displaying that it is Apple's tm, that they will not win the court battle. Otherwise, once you let one person use it without them showing that it is trademarked...it would be difficult to stop another person from using it.
Just thought it was funny that Linux/Unix is an everyone else. I would think that the difference between the number computers out there with Linux/Unix than Macs is lil to none. just my 2 cents// windows if (n.indexOf("win") != -1) {...}// mac else if (n.indexOf("mac") != -1) {...}//everyone else else if (a.indexOf("microsoft") != -1) {...}

As a guy who just signed up for the week long RHCE 300 training and exam...I must say someone misquoted that article big time.
The correct price I paid for the RHCE is $2498 as seen HERE
Or you can just take the exam part for $750
This goes right along with all the wonderful things Microsoft has done.
Remember the time they invented the mouse...yea for microsoft mice!
Or, how about when they reinvented the modem, the Winmodem...yea for microsoft!
Or that time when they invented the browser...yea for Microsoft!
big talk...that's their story..
This was meant to be a joke...i know it is incorrect. (yes...you have to tell people that these days!_

Maybe Bill Gates will auction off Microsoft's pieces when the gov't splits them up.
"Damnit, still noone will buy Windows 2000...even for $.49!!"
We can all hope. I think I will go finish the auctioning off my authentic used socks.

They can't claim their logo as one of their ads UNLESS the trademark information is there.

I would tend to wonder what else we would need.
First, you have your small handheld PCs...
Next, broadband wireless...
Now, this.
Imagine all the people....walking down the street looking uat porn...err...I mean...surfing the web.
