I knew someone great who had had AIDS for twenty years without ever getting medication for it, who died of cancer three months ago.
To top it off, he died because the doctors didn't believe that he had a growing lump in his neck. They said they didn't have the funding to check such arbitrary nonsense (we have public health insurance in Denmark).
Yeah, he probably IS right. It's not as much connected to the article as the IPv6 thing, or more precisely, only to the IPv6 part. Still, someone typing fast, who knows what he wants to say and has the foresight to spot something he wants to comment on in the mysterious future might pull this off.
I just started as a customer service "consultant" (fancy title for answering stupid questions) for a major Scandinavian telco, and I can say that my some of my colleagues are so stupid that I actually would stop using a telco that presented me with them as representatives... What makes it worse is that it's an outsourced branch so we work for a company specializing in telephone services (we also have MS Support hotline upstairs from us O_o)
But I am glad it's not computer hotline for me anymore...
2. # Anyone who wants to opt out of this database will be kept in another database instead (most probably named something like 'potential dissidents').
This was my exact thought - "Oh, so you don't wantto be monitored... Don't worry, we won't use that against you. I'll just scribble all the same details in my little black book here, along with a picture of you..."
I did say favourite sites. Peerguardian actually blocks any attempts to visit a Geocities page, and honestly, I can't be bothered to turn it off for the few seconds it'd take to load. I just don't go there.
Homestar Runner is completely ad-free - but they have a pretty good little niche where they can sell enough merchandise to keep it going.
Take/. for instance - let's see a raise of hands here: How many has a/. plushie? Well, a/. CD? Coffee mug, then, and perhaps a t-shirt? Oh, three.
Well, y'see, those two t-shirts and that mug ain't gonna pay the server costs - but right now, having ads will. I know, some of you are subscribers, and that probably covers a few percent as well. That's the entire point.
While it's really nice to have sites with NO advertising (like H*R), for most sites, it's just not an option.
As much as I hate ads and having to block all those different adservers every time a new one pops up, I have been thinking the same thing - what happens to my favourite sites when they don't get the revenue stream that they'd get from ads?
After looking around, the only one of these I'd go for would be Orkut (only I don't know anyone in there and it's invite only). I tried Friendster a short while ago and ended up getting a disturbing amount of mail from them, plus their interface was severely annoying. The only one I use is denmark-centric (let's see if the site dies ^_^), mostly because it's the only one that's available and makes just a little coherrent sense for danes. Not that there's anything wrong with their gay design, it's just... Idwr.
Have you seen 'The Devil's Advocate'? I wan that moving wallpaper of naked people, sans les males. Mmm. Wallpaper of moving women. Concept art (shows nothing of the wall but has a good explanation of the wall)
Yes yes! We're all individuals!

It's called subscription, noob.

Arrr, gots to love the bay, matey...

Tech advances will over time become more available.
More after a few words from Samsung, our proud sponsor.
Check your relationships ;p
That's why he saved the 'e' in dupe. To even out the difference.
When someone has time to coralize and copy the text into a comment a dozen posts before you, you need to learn the words.
Also, you suck. Who cares about fp except dysfunctional teenagers?

I walked right into that one...
;p
I've been believing (and re-telling) that story for years now.
I should've known better than to believe a rumour of that sort without checking up on it...
Thank you, generic-man!

It's actually still Kentucky Fried Chicken in Europe (Denmark, at least).
Probably because those mongrel "chickens" they've genetically altered in the US are illegal here and they have to use real chicken...
...and BAM, you were in windows
Sounds like a horrible nightmare...
I don't have to buy a new car every few years if I want to be sure that it's safe...

At least you linked to ICRC. Good on yer.
Look for the white NW tags on walls.

I agree, his statement is completely nonsensical.
You missed the point - he clearly wants the newest versions. Can't say that I blame him.
Um. Yes. Maybe?
I think he is (a) trying to be punny or (b) just doesn't get that it has nothing to do with the bots he's used to chatting with.
