Apart from the fact they are AVX enabled (256bit SSE registers). Since the Intel graphics chips are partially implemented in software, there should be a bit of a performance boost in the TnL pipeline. An Nvidia/Ati card would perform better though (and are easier to code for)

No. Read up on Intel AVX. The SIMD registers have been doubled in size from the previous generation. You can now do 8 floats per instruction instead of 4..... :)

That's most likely the source of the performance increase... not the clock speed increase

  5. Re:Impressive graphics ? on Intel Sandy Bridge Desktop and Mobile CPUs · · Score: 1

Well not quite. As I understand it, the vertex (and I'm assuming geom + compute + tessellation) shaders are all implemented in software on the CPU. Whereas the last generation of i7's were SSE4 enabled (4 floats per instruction), the new models come with AVX (8 floats per instruction). One would assume therefore there should be a significant improvement in 3D performance as a result.... (assuming memory bandwidth doesn't cause too many problems).

Wikileaks, Co$, and any other campaign that anon has decided to act upon *are* causes worthy of bringing some serious media attention to. Do you really think having a 15 year old as the spokesperson for that cause (of which it is obvious they have no understanding) is a good idea? If you knew nothing of the wikileaks organisation, the most you will find out in the British media about it, is that some 15 year olds are doing some hacking for the LULZ, and their leader is a rapist.

So no. I am not laughing. Anon is getting the media publicity, whilst the causes they are fighting for are being brushed under the carpet.....

I dunno, I'm getting very tired of the continual 'news' regarding anonymous on the bbc website. It's typically involves some random 'source' who is apparently affiliated with anon, who hasn't been involved with any of anon's activities, doesn't speak for them, but feels compelled to spout some non-newsworthy opinions. It's not news. It's just 15 year olds on 4chan. Enough already.

It's ok, you don't need to organise a march on london just yet. They were actually fake politicians. I made it up. It should be obvious by now that I'm a proper Welshman myself (for the English know nothing of Swansea. They all turn back at Port Talbot, if they haven't already done so). If the question of "which city should the alien invaders be pointed towards" ever arise in parliament, Swansea would still be fairly high on my list, and I might even recommend an overnight stay in port talbot. Most of the people in Swansea would view the aliens as liberators anyway, so all things considered, everybody wins.....

The lib/con coalition government did a cost/benefit analysis as part of their spending review. Whilst I don't have a source to hand, IIRC it came down to a simple decision in the end. On one hand you could invest billions in military hardware to save cardiff from an alien invasion. On the other hand, you could simply erect some signs pointing out the direction of Swansea.
