When going generator -> battery -> motor, it gets ~50MPG
So common sense says that the 230MPG is coming from when it is most efficient.
This would be when it NEVER EVER drinks a drop of gas.
So we can say that:
230MPG / 2.00 (we will say gas is @ $2/gallon) = 115MP$
since a full charge can get you 40 miles, that means that it should ONLY cost you ~33CENTS to fully charge the car.
That contradicts their 85Cents for a full charge (at 4kWh no less)
WHERE THE HELL IS THIS COMING FROM.
How can a cars MPG rating be HIGHER than its most efficient method?
its most efficient method as per GM @ 85 cents / charge nets you ~ 92MPG (again assuming a $2 gallon of gas). Hell assume 3 dollars a gallon and you are still only at ~138MPG)
A friend of mine said once that the global corporations, by nature of the vast resources they control, actually formulate government policy and the elected politicians are the ones tasked with selling those policies to the public.
Awesome way of looking at Politics / Gov't these days!
Fire fighters look out for THEMSELVES (and their team) FIRST when it comes to entering a burning building.
Rescuing a person in a burning building is not like they portray it on the movies.
No sane fire department Chief would let his men go into a burning building without the proper gear, and one very important part of that gear is their Radio.
How are they supposed to communicate with each other (masks on)? How are they supposed to communicate with their team outside of the building? What happens if a part of the ceiling falls on your teammate and now he is trapped with a broken leg? How am I supposed to get word that I need another team to enter the house to retrieve us?
Imagine how much more effective a program like adblock plus would be!
no more Huge faces on the side of the bus driving by, instead it's a nice view of the beach; hell the image could actually be a video coming from a live feed.
Or you know, it could make driving that much safer.
When you have a computer powerful enough to push out real time augmented reality, why not have it start monitoring your surroundings as well?
Instead of hitting the little kid with the bouncy ball as he walks across the street to get it, your HUD could immediately identify the kid and warn you in advance.
How about watching a sports game? Feel like finding out what your favorite players stats are? say the voice command (or hand gesture), and now there is a floating, semi transparent window above your player with all his real time stats. He just ran 40 yards for a TD? as he's running this window follows him as well as keeps his total yards counter ticking as he does it.
Yeah, they seem to be struggling with getting it out to the markets that would actually sign up.
Somehow my area (the ghetto of Tonawanda, NY) has it yet my parents in Amherst, NY (the rich middle class area) isn't scheduled until the end of 2009.
My guess is that it has to do with local permits being needed for X, Y and Z.
And yes, their app that allows you to find out if a specific address / phone number is FioS capable is a complete garbage heap half the time. However, if it can't even find your address you probably cant get their service:)
Ever since I was able to get my 20mbit (both ways) FioS connection, I have been recommending them to everyone I talk to. For family members, I even check the site every few days to see if their area has it.
With FioS I haven't experienced any major downtime, and I can consistently max my pipe at 2.4MB/s both ways if given the opportunity.
Add their new TV service through FioS, and you have a winner in my book. Can't beat uncompressed HD!
Remember when the NY state troopers were tracking down Bucky Phillips? the FBI was helping them out by tracking his cell phone. They (the FBI) were able to ONLY get within a quarter mile of the phones location by way of pinging his cell phone from cell towers.
This was a phone that didn't have a GPS chip in it, btw.
No, the Health insurance does NOT have the right to know what type of risk they are insuring.
What happens when they can take a sample of our blood, and instantly tell us if we are at risk for Heart Disease, Brain Tumors, Cancer, etc etc etc etc...
Car insurance NEEDS that information because when you pay insurance, you aren't just covering yourself, you are covering all the dumb mistakes you do. no one told you to speed, or run the red light, but car insurance still covers you in those situations (of course your insurance is going to be raised).
Health insurance, for the most part, isn't covering the stupid mistakes you make.
Just because you were tested at birth and it showed that you had a 30% chance of going near sight in the next 10 years, vs the average of say 5%, you think that person deserves to pay more?
our soldiers are using piss poor equipment in Iraq?
are you nuts?
We have the most decked out Army in the world when it comes to technology and gadgets. How about you go over to Africa and see what type of equipment they have.
I mean Hell, there was a post on here maybe a few weeks ago talking about how generals are sitting there using IM clients to send orders and retrieve updates of the mission on the fly, etc.
piss poor equipment my F-ing ass
Why are you even using simple texting?
With today's cell technology, there is no reason for you to be using simple text messages (except maybe to older cell phones)
With all the unlimited internet access plans, its called IM, or hell e-mail.
You bring up all this, but you don't ALSO mention that there are 4 different levels of compliance?
If you are using one of the API's on your website
(such that your customer never leaves your domain), then you only have to comply with level 4 rules.
A simple remote scan by a PCI compliant testing company.
(Since you shouldn't need to store any CC info on your actual domain, your gateway does that)
take your numbers you have quoted on that link...
(3 cents / mile)
lets say its even cheaper! @ 2 cents / mile.
that means it would cost me $4.60 to go 230 Miles.
Based on their numbers, 230Miles is == 1 gallon of gas.
Really? gas is 4.60/gallon now?
NOTHING CHECKS OUT!
If you take the 4.60 and plug it in with their .85cents a charge, you get a bit closer to that 230MPG mark.
It looks like they are assuming a gallon of gas == 4.60
So this is what we know:
~40miles for a full battery charge
~7 gallon tank
When going generator -> battery -> motor, it gets ~50MPG
So common sense says that the 230MPG is coming from when it is most efficient.
This would be when it NEVER EVER drinks a drop of gas.

I just hope this tech matures within my lifetime.
