When one of these comes with built-in 802.11b+Samba support, that's when I'll buy it. Being able to pull into your driveway and transfer new songs without leaving the car is where it's at.
Most non-shit audio device drivers allow you to set the latency. You take it down as far as you can without breakups/crackles/pops/distortion.
2.5 is damn good. That kind of latency requires a good machine and is probably very much linked to the current amount of processor usage. My hammerfall DSP goes down to 1.5ms, and I think that's about the best that can currently be achieved.... Good luck getting it stable at any kind of decent cpu utilization though..
In practice, anything above 6ms bothers me if i'm playing a soft synth.
He ho ha. There are no good ones. this ain't no trollin, it's the damn truth.
Don't believe me?... Find me a softsynth for linux that sounds anything close to as good as Native Instruments FM7.... Or a sound editor as good as sound forge... or a sequencer as good as cubase... etc, etc, etc.
Yes, OSDN sure is grate. I guess they're still wondering why their "Animated GIF Factory" business model doesn't work.

Totally, man. This is really, really cool. If it's lossless, why DOESN'T this catch on? Double the data on a standard audio CD! Amazing!
I can't believe I've never heard of this before. As an electronic musician, this could also really help to reduce the size of my gigantic sample library.
I used to love Linux. I took great pleasure in exterminating Windows years ago and switching over entirely.... Well, soon enough, I was back to Windows on my Desktop.
At some point, I took an interest in computer-based music production. "Great! I'm sure I can do this with Linux!"... Wrong.
Sadly, Both Windows and MacOS take a huge dump all over linux when it comes to the availability of professional-quality audio applications.
All of the open source audio projects seem either stale, abandoned (Someone mentioned JMAX. Take a look at when that was last updated, jack.) or eternally in pre-alpha -- not to mention at most times horribly inadequate. Compare XWave to Sound Forge, and you will get my picture.
Want VST Instruments? VST Effects? DirectX Plugins? A Proper Sequencer? A Proper Sound Editor?...Sorry, not in Linux yet...
HEY, WHAT IF ONE DAY TECHNOLOGY ENABLES US TO HEAR BETTER OR IF ALIENS COME DOWN AND THEY CAN HEAR BETTER THAN US WHERE WILL YOUR PRECIOUS 128KBPS MP3S BE THEN HUH!?!?
I love slashdot. These days, I just scroll through the posts, laughing and thinking to myself "What the fuck is wrong with these people?"
A friend of mine had his thinkpad propped up on the one far end of a long board sitting on top of a big box in my basement. He walked away for a second, and one of my cats decided to play "seesaw". He jumped on the other end of the board, and the Laptop went a'flyin through the air. While airborne, it hit a cup full of water, which landed on the concrete floor just before the laptop smashed into it. We all gasped. Surely, that thing was never going to work again.
My friend went over and picked it up. He toweled it down to get the water off, and noticed that there wasn't really any exterior damage. the laptop had just about closed before it hit the ground, and there were no nicks or scrapes. He then held his breath, opened it up, and hit the power button.
BEEP!... It booted right up. No problems. Amazing.
From that moment forward, that laptop has been referred to as "The Tank".
FYI, For those who use sound forge under windows. Up until this release, there has been problems with loading and saving files. At this point, as far as I can tell, all basic editing functionality works. The only thing that I'm not sure about are if external plugins work or not.
Still, it sucks that I have to run a the windows version of sound forge at all. The state of open source digital audio editors in a *nix environment is nothing less than piss poor. Anybody who has ever been forced to use XWave knows exactly what I'm talking about.... I hate to sound like I'm complaining. All I know is that if I had the knowledge needed to write such an app, you can bet that I'd be working on it right now.

i would like chicken tonight! chicken tonight! chickecn too nigghhttt!
Now linux just needs some audio applications that are worth using.
...It's a secret.
Laugh at me, beyatch. Traktor up yo ass.

The thought of this amused me, and there's a Tits&Ass a few miles down the street, so I went and checked it out.
... You do the math.
133MHz Pentium Compaq = $450
233MHz Pentium Compaq = $600
1000MHz Cyrix Laptop (via pricewatch) = $634
Good deal?

Sure. Anyway, let me get back to using my USB-based Tascam US-428 @ 5ms latency...
nobodoy uses linux for audio, dipshit :)

I believe the proper term is "Sand Nigger".

I guess the aluminum bowl I smoke my crack in isn't helping either. Or all of that black soot in my lungs. Fuck.
mmmm. Duct tape! ... NOW I'm interested. :) That's a black plumber job right there, bro.
Yeah, man. Pentium II 300's. State of the Art!
