This needs an award. Next time my boss says these words I'm going to use this as a reply.

  3. Re: on Is the Gaming PC Dead? · · Score: 1

HP seems to be making the argument, that if it can't sell gaming PC's, then gaming must be dead, or something...its all straws.

The market isn't going to suddenly shift to consoles and not PC's like a snap of your fingers. Look at VHS! The last major VHS distributor closed shop, and VHS format has been around for almost 32 years, DVD format debuted in 1993, and we're only now phasing out production on VHS.

But the DVD replaces the VHS, here's the biggest difference. Console gaming doesn't replace PC gaming and vice versa, both methods can coexist just fine. And even with all the home gaming around, places like Gameworks thrive on their arcades. Arcade gaming will die before anything IMHO

  4. Re: on What Happens To Code From Failed Projects? · · Score: 4, Informative

Where I work if a project gets shelved we separate any useful functions from the code and copy those for future use. and then the code gets archived and a document of its code printed out on paper for reference and as a hard backup. Basically its recycled, although we've had clients come up after 5 years wanting to restart the project, and are surprised that we still have it.

  5. Re: on IT Job Without a Degree? · · Score: 1

I don't have time to troll through all the responses to see if I'm repeating anything, but I offer my wisdom. Its more difficult to get a job without a degree, but not impossible. Some employers only care that you have that piece of paper, and could care less if you actually knew the stuff. The trick lies in finding one that knows that the talent behind that paper (or that would be behind it) is way more important than the paper itself.

  6. Re: on Do Software Versions Really Matter? · · Score: 1

Personally I wouldn't be against buying v1.0 software, it is always patchable so I don't worry about bugs. But more or less the first release of software shouldn't include a version number at all in my opinion. This gives the impression, I think, that the software was made for its purpose and was made with forethought to never need v2.0 in the first place, even though its not true, it looks more attractive.

  7. Re: on When Not To Place a Personal Ad · · Score: 2, Funny

Arg! This ad makes me crave to know that the "noise" he makes is. The fact is, I don't notice any gay people I know making unusual noises, I've never heard which would make me suspect that just from the sound. Do people with gaydar have literal pinging noises in their skulls? I don't know! But he says he's having brain surgery...does he here the noise too when it happens? is there some sort of "pulse" that admits, and upon striking a skull of a person, resonates, and returns to the sender with this information? Oh I wish I knew.

  8. Ok, he couldn't have been on the phone for 45k minutes, or he couldn't have been doing this for 15 out of 40 weeks. 15 * 7 = 105 days 105 * 24 = 2,520 hours 2,520 * 60 = 151,200 minutes So he was either spending 3 times more time on the phone then what is said, or he was only doing this for 5 out of 40 weeks which is ALOT more reasonable (and believable! I mean, 15 weeks is a lot of wacking!). I hate to nit-pick at the math, but I do.
