Now a president can order an unmanned attack on a group of terrorists, or a wedding party as the case may be, at very little political risk, since there is no pilot to be captured or killed.
We've had this technology for years - it's called cruise missiles. But instead of wedding parties they sometimes target aspirin factories.
Wasn't it Kurt Cobain who said that they felt like Nirvana had finally "made it" when Weird Al did Smells Like Nirvana? I think when Al was asking permission, Kurt also said something like "Yes. Wait, it's not going to be about food, is it?"
I've always had a hard time swallowing the concept of an "oort cloud" - I view it as a hypethetical construct to explain the existance of long period comets. The ONLY reason the Oort cloud is thought to exist is because it's a reasonable solution to the origin of these objects.
Of course other sources for long period comets are ignored - especially the exploded planet hypothesis. It's too "fringe" to think these objects could have had a local origin. If you show that there is strong evidence that comets originated from a solar system body that "exploded" the need for the oort cloud vanishes.
Absolving Google of responsibility of employee actions while performing company business is a wonderful idea - just think of all the litigation we could throw out of the courts based on precedence!
I got that, I just didn't like the way it sounded. He's Bruce Wayne for crying out loud, he can afford a voice modulator or some neat device to mask his voice instead of a harsh whisper.
I think this movie is going to start a new Holywood curse - if you play a villian in a superhero movie you better make sure they kill your character off at the end, or you'll end up dead in RL.
Definitely lives up to the hype. I just wish Bale's batman voice was a little less forced.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the Air Force had loaded Phoenix up with missiles on the off chance that the Martian Bacteria was aiding or harboring terrorists...
Agreed, but I see this as the initial steps to move all their software to this model - including the OS and components. For example, you'll need a license for DirectX if you want to play any recent games, with anual renewal fees. Even if these fees are cheap ($20 a year) they've still solved the first-sale doctrine issue (at least from Microsoft's standpoint). Then they'll be able to force users to move to their new products through license expirations, something I'm sure they wish they implemented before VISTA.
Now they can prove that the end-user doesn't "own" their software but are licensed, getting around first-sale doctrine and all the rights contained therein. Their lawyers must love it.
Darker Realms was my MUD of choice - I still remember my password even though it's been 15 years, yet I can't remember my character class when I played Baulder's Gate (I or II).
I spent way too much time on that MUD - and Empire. It's a miracle I ever graduated.

Don't you mean the "arachnapocalypse"?

Amen to that - I literally forgot the original article was about Weird Al...

Where would put it? The cowel doesn't cover his mouth.
Obviously he'd have it surgically implanted with a handy blink-controlled on/off switch.
Thanks, now I have Mike and Ike residue all over my monitor.

Your reply has been deemed an Abomination Unto Nuggan.
I only have one thing to say to that - Robert Goddard.

So maybe we need a PC Doctor-Patient privilege?
