I've spent way too much time fixing stupid mistakes that other people made. Technical Lead means every time someone compiles you get to explain why they need the pointer to reference something before they use it.
I had one lady that would come to me a couple of times a week with that exact problem. The sad part was that she was making nearly twice what I was at the time.
Even with training and experience in programming there are still people who have no business writing code.
I've known WAY too many geeks to take most of their views on family life seriously;-). I'm actually surprised how many slashdotters do have kids.
While there are some that believe that language cannot be offensive the majority of the population does find some language to be offensive. Otherwise we wouldn't have any restrictions on what can be aired on TV and movies couldn't carry an R rating due to language. I don't think its the syllables that are the problem. It's the strong emotions that are attached to them. If someone needs to resort to using words for their shock value that makes me question the validity of their argument.
Most of the sites she would visit are viewable only by people on their friends list. Others have cancelled or been deleted. Here's a few examples of pages that were blocked. The content of each page seems to change frequently so you never know what will be on them.
We did sit down and talk to her about the excessive amount of time she was wasting on myspace before I blocked it. The problem was that she would claim to be doing her homework on the computer but actually be on myspace. Her grades went from As and Bs to Ds and Fs.
The one that finally led me to block it completely was when she wouldn't go to an activity with the rest of the family because she had too much homework but five minutes after we left she was on myspace for about three hours while we were gone.
In no way did I lie to her. I shut it down and when she asked about it I explained why.
I run my own DNS server at home because I do web development at home and I've got 8 computers that I don't feel like updating individually.
I've got a daughter who will be 15 next month. We had a problem with her spending WAY too much time on myspace. She was neglecting her homework and her grades were dropping fast. Most of the time she said she was doing homework on the computer she was actually on myspace.
I didn't see anything positive about myspace and lots of negatives. I run my own DNS server at home so simply adding an entry for myspace.com quickly fixed the problem.
She was pretty upset when myspace didn't work anymore but has only complained once or twice. Her grades have jumped back from Ds and Fs to As and Bs and her attitude is much better now.
BTW, I installed Dan's Guardian before I shut off myspace completely and it blocked probably half of the pages she tried to go to on myspace due to offensive language. I'm not talking about your standard teenager swearing, I mean pretty raunchy stuff.
I'll second that. I've got the 512MB version and I carry it in my wallet. When I bought it about a year and a half ago it was not only the smallest but also the fastest USB flash drive available. I've had no problems with it at all.
When he says Microsoft was afraid of Java I think of Microsoft's attempt to pollute Java with J++ long before C# was a consideration. They were afraid of programs being written that don't rely on the Windows platform and are portable across Windows, Mac, and Linux. They attempted to lock Java developers into the Windows platform by introducing core features in their own version of Java that would make programs unusable on other platforms. That was what the Sun - Microsoft lawsuit was all about.
If you're asking about the strange design on the connectors I'm guessing that some of the contacts are for testing. I've got the 512MB 2.0 version and it looked like there had been something connected on the extra contacts when I got it.
It only functions as a USB device. No additional standard interfaces.
The connector is about 1/3 the height of a USB connector. It only consists of the inner part of the connector, not the shroud so if you want a more standard USB connection you use the adapter. I don't have the adapter and don't anticipate ever wanting it.
I had a big ugly 256MB USB flash drive and wanted something better. I did some research before buying mine and it was the fastest and by far the smallest drive available. I love this drive and carry it in my wallet everywhere I go just in case.
According to my hardware engineer buddy who happens to be working on a PCI-Express implementation right now, 8X AGP pretty much maxes out that technology.
Graphics isn't the reason for the push to PCI-Express, it's just a nice side effect. Increased overall system bandwidth is the real reason to switch. With PCI 2.3 a single GB ethernet card can use up all your bandwidth where single a PCI-Express x1 link runs at 2.5 GB and each link runs on its own line, not interfering with other links.
How is this different from the open-source Vipul's Razor, Pyzor or DCC...
Herbivore filters out random garbage that spammers are putting into their messages before it creates the identifying hash. It also was designed to be easy for anyone to install and transparent to use.
...Cloudmark [cloudmark.com] seems to do alright by using Razor's network.
Cloudmark's SpamNet has a lot of users even though it is only currently only available for Outlook. Herbivore runs on just about anything (its running on Gentoo PPC right next to me) and you can use your favorite mail client!
I stopped using my Hotmail account about two years ago because I'd get about one valid email per month and about 500 spams. It really sucks going through page after page of spam just to see if you have any valid emails. I gave up on Hotmail.
I'm using my Hotmail account again thanks to Herbivore. It has support for Hotmail. An added bonus is my messages come straight into my mail client so I don't have to go through Hotmail's site to read them.
Almost all of the spam I get is to invalid addresses. I get all of the incorrectly addressed email for about 10 different domains - somewhere around 1000 messages per day. I don't know if the spammers just made up the addresses or if someone intentionally filled out forms with bogus addresses.
I'm happy to get all of this spam because it increases the effectiveness of my anti-spam system Herbivore. Herbivore is a distributed anti-spam system. Everybody that uses it increases it's accuracy. If you're interested, any Slashdot readers can get two years for free by entering "slashdot" as the promotional code. Help us fight spam!
I get around 1000 messages (mostly spam) every day over my 56K modem without even noticing.
I've got Herbivore (my anti-spam program) set up to retrieve my mail from the mail server every 2.5 minutes and I've never noticed a slowdown from spam. Most spam messages aren't very big. They include links to images instead of the actual images. Still, I guess 1000 messages at 2K each is around 2MB but spread that over 24 hours and there's very little impact on my work.

The speed of gravity has been measured. Pretty sure I heard about it here three years ago.

My latest project has no Hibernate XML files at all which makes me VERY happy. :)

Here's one and another and another and another here's a winner or how about this one. All of these are from the filter's log files from October and November of last year for my 14 year old daughter.

My SL-C3000 came from conics.net for what I thought was a great price. Very fast service too!
Wish I had waited a month or two to get the 3100 but I'm still happy with the 3000.

Java applications must have a method that matches the signature
public static void main(String[] args)
Applets must be derived from java.applet.Applet to work in a browser.
Everything I've read indicate no airtime fees. You can also add it on to an existing T-Mobile wireless account for an additional $19.99.
I've been looking into wireless service for my shiny new Zaurus SL-C3000. T-Mobile offers unlimited internet access via GPRS for $29.99/month here:e rnet

It won't be as fast as Sprint's 1xRTT so it may not be what you're looking for but it's much cheaper and may be faster than your current line.
Move your web server to a different port. You've got nearly 64K to choose from.
If you're the only one who should be accessing the web server it won't matter that it's living on a different port.

The original poster was talking about C which has about as much in common with Java as it does with C#.

I think the smoke would be a good indicator.

8 bit PNGs are indexed in a palette. The palette contains 32 bits of RGBA info.
When done correctly, PNG file size will almost always come out smaller than GIF due to smarter compression.

My email address is in my usenet posts.
I make my email address easily available to spammers everywhere. Go ahead, add me to your list. You don't scare me!
I feed Herbivore all the spam I can but it doesn't like it much.
Spammers, please take note of my email address above. Send me all the spam you've got. It helps improve Herbivore's accuracy.
"We've already got one!"
Just a continuation of the research project. :-)
