every home depot in my city is basically 1 staff at each entrance and exit
30 check out lanes all closed, 4 self check out lanes guarded by one person who's too busy texting to do anything useful
i'm glad home depot went to shit in my city before the data breach i used to shop their but since they turned into big self service wear houses i haven't been back.
Go for it, don't quit your day job, and worst case scenario you never manage to contribute anything major to the field, but you gain a greater understanding of something you find interesting. Best case scenario you excel discover all the mysteries of the universe.
All you have to lose is the time you spend on it, if it's a passion of yours then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Exactly, to a scientist / researcher / engineer etc a failed test is not doomsday, as long as it gives them more information to continue solving the problem its just a lesser form of success
Say what? Canada is common-law based, same as UK, US, Commonwealth nations etc. I guess what you mean is that the judges might look at intent more closely...
I mean exactly what i said, common-law refers to a system of consistency basing decisions of how crimes are handled and how evidence is weighted against established president in previous similar cases, and is designed to ensure consistent and equal treatment of similar circumstances going forward.
Common-law systems can be enforced by following the letter of the law, or the spirit of the law. In the united states the letter is followed more rigidly than in Canada. Both systems have merit and both systems are common-law based (Yes i know the usa doesn't exclusively follow the letter of the law but its more rigid than here in Canada)
Canada's legal system is based on enforcing the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law which allows us a bit more flexibility for circumstances that were unanticipated when the laws were created.
Personally i think if they used proper DRM to ensure they didn't have 'too many' copies of a book out at a time this would be the best solution, and the one most true to the library model. Allowing this at dedicated terminals is a start, but I would really like to see a model that allows them to work as library should work, but without the need to to bring the physical book home.
Ha ha ha ha! Funny guy. He needs to read a history book - or even a current weekly magazine.

No not really, I'm sure from your comfy first world computer your typing into everything in Cuba is A-OK and that 55 years of exclusion from the world economy has nothing to do with the terrible conditions currently. I guess American's are so used to oppressing people it doesn't seem bad to them anymore.
I honestly expected to see the camera's priced at like $20,000 each not because they need to be, just because of all the corruption fees all the way up.
so kudos NYC i'm impressed 1k/camera is pretty close to reasonable.
yes that's a pretty accurate summary of our healthcare system.
At one point our healthcare was actually quite good, but that was some time ago. The government seems to think as long as it has a good reputation internationally its not really worth fixing.
As i look around *my* room, i see embedded linux devices that are running mostly binaries primarily written in C, many smaller electronics with simple micro controllers, even a windows CE embedded device running software written in.NET and one java based device my phone..
If i think about whats in my car, its a windows CE embedded device running native applications.
java does a lot of enterprise, android and a decent % of webapps. other than android apps rarely do i see something that is java that behaves as well as the non java equivalents

because he knows he is guilty and likely will be found guilty, costing the crown less money to convict you provides some leniency

Then you get to enjoy the unbearably slow performance, and HP-UX style UI from 1992.
Ahh good ol' CDE i never drew the comparison but that's bang on lol, i wonder if java's ui elements were modeled after CDE
a more apt comparison would have been EA games i think
