...to the "strobe-light" effect I sometimes see late at night when I'm trying to fall asleep? Close my eyes, and I see fluctuating "flashes" behind my eyelids for a few seconds that don't seem to be coming from any lights in the environment. Maybe some sporadic electromagnetic or other RF interference?
When I was growing up on my grandpa's dairy farm, he used to tell us kids not to pee on the electric fence. When HE was pressed for further citation, his response was, indeed, "Ball lightning."
No, you're right. In those cases, it probably really IS ball lightning. But some reported cases of ball lightning might actually be hallucinations, and not the real thing.
I'd say Asimov's Foundation series, but that has more to do with sociopolitical influences on a massive scale and scope than dealing with basic terrestrial energy crises.
Add all those numbers up together, divide by 8, and flip the calculator upside down and it spells out "BOOBIES"... weird.

A peaceful Saturday at aquatone's house was punctuated by a late-afternoon domestic disturbance.
Monday Morning: Municipal Courthouse.
"So, you claim that chasing around a terrified 12-year-old while flailing a baseball bat over your head and insisting that he 'play ball' is responsible parenting and an attempt to get the poor child interested in athletics? You honestly make me sick, and I feel that pending your psych eval you should be kept away from children for the rest of your natural life."
You just can't win, can you?

I like how the article you reference states that they're designing a "Proto-prototype".
So! By that logic, they have developed a proto-prototype of a generalized machine maker machine that can be used to construct proto-nano-pin-number-generating-atm-machines using proto-nano-assemblers running on AC current.
Total violation of the Code of Conduct for Bros...
It takes a thief...
Then you haven't been paying very close attention...
That's WARP 10, and the worst ST episode of any series EVER.

It embiggens all of our vocabularies.
Mine is the day before that.
You're not a tycoon browsing Slashdot.
Well, I am...

Impossible, as the Earth is only 6000 years old.
Ah, but in WEST Elbonia, the energy market dominates YOU!
...Does snake-oil burn? If so, have I got an opportunity for YOU!

Do it like Granny did with her life-savings: Bury it in a mason jar in the backyard. Only with a cat-6 cable running into it.

The Texty for that is GOML.

This is worse than spaceballs: the video tape.
Now became then, just now. ...everybody got that?
