    I never owned an iphone but I was curious.

    and WTF, the way to change tones seems to be:

    1. jailbreak the thing
    2. convert your custom tone to AIFF
    3. ssh to the phone
    4. in /system/library/audio/uisounds overwrite the original files with your own file

    *very* convenient, I still can't believe it

    sure, the thing is biased but take a look at page 23:

    In the first half year of 2010, the number of internet sites in the globe has fallen and that in China has declined synchronously. According to the statistics of Netcraft, in the first half year of 2010, the number of internet sites in the world has been decreased by 27 million7, with a drop of 11.5%. An important reason for the drop of total sites is the expiration of web hosting services.

    TFA compares end of 2009 with end of 2010, the survey is unfortunately older (June 2010) so it is not possible to see the same data from the 2 different POVs...

    most WLAN routers are used also as DHCP hosts. a simple solution would be a script that gets regularly the DHCP leases page and generates a warning when a new MAC/address combination is found.

    it is kind of sad in a funny way that the US marks everything as war.

    war on drugs, war on terrorism, war on cyber criminals - heck, those are jobs for law enforcement and police organisations; the military excels on battle grounds, not investigations and arrests.

    Even the article took the wrong turn in the 1st sentence, the headline talks about "cyberwarfare" (definition please) and the article starts with "combatting cyber criminals". Those are two distinct issues, catching criminals should be done by civil agencies, not the army.

    As a horribly mediocre programmer, I am currently working in systems administration instead.

    kind of offtopic but I don't feel like I'm forced into server administration because I'm a bad coder.

    both jobs are interesting and require skills and knowledge (when done well)

    actually blocked in Australia (until now of course) was some overseas male porn star who shared the same name as an Australian Idol winner or finalist, and somebody accidentally posted the URL of the former instead of the latter in the media release

    because some marketing guy published the wrong URL all/some ISPs redirected the traffic to another page?

    the rationale for this operation is imo even worse than the arguments for blocking child pornography...
