They aren't talking about security in the terrorism/national security sense. Ever been to a private night club? The bouncer outside the door that lets people in based on how they're dressed, or their social status? That's the sort of security they're looking for.
They send out tickets to the people they would like to come. These people are the people that they feel "deserve" to be there. Now, these tickets are transferrable between friends. It is reasonably assumed that anyone they invited would give their ticket to someone of a similar status, by the nature of friendships and how people give shit away. When you have someone selling the tickets, however, you have the potential for the unsightly to sneak in the back. The tickets are the bouncer at the front door, and you don't want him to be easily purchased.
You can't compile your own programs? Where the hell do you work?
I'm in a CMMI-5 facility (The Process is God), and we compile our own programs. Do you mean compiling the final version to run in production? I guess we don't get to do that, the Tech Lead does (someone's got to...I would assume someone else would do it if she weren't here. It can't be all of us...). But if you can't compile your work, how do you find out if it works?
But it's not really as bad as slashdot would have you believe. Yahoo music is a subscription service, mostly, so unless Yahoo plans to continually take your money after the servers are shut down, this is no problem. Sure, the people using it will be slightly inconvenienced, but there are other subscription services. No one on a subscription service should think they have any right to that music once they cancel the subscription, just as I don't have a right to the Howard Stern show after I cancel Sirius.
Furthermore, Yahoo Music's 0.99c songs are all, as far as I know, Non-drm'd MP3's. People that bought the songs should have no problem listening to them. DRM is really a non-issue here, as it doesn't affect anyone in a manner that they wouldn't expect.
Those are all programming problems, not CS problems.
A prototypical CS problem is "Traveling Salesman". Writing a program to route a salesman over a series of cities would be a programming problem. The CS researchers problem would be solving the underlying mathematics of it in polynomial time. CS Research can be done sans computer, programming cannot (at least not usefully). There is a huge difference.
Also, your assertation that math is an abstraction of electronics is just weird. Electronics is a specific field of physics. Physics is (in essence) a specific field of math.
My roommate has this phone. It's about as big and heavy as your average brick. I'm no iphone fan, but you could have picked a better phone. Blackberries, for example, have all the Apple features plus some, minus the touch screen.
Do you really think the US economy is "collapsing"?
Really?
Like seriously? Because I'd venture to guess you don't really know much about the economy. Yes, we're probably in a longer recession period. But to incinuate that the entire economy is "collapsing" is just silly. Wall Street isn't shutting down, gubna.
I've only ever had one ridiculously long wait at a DMV, and it was right by the college (kids getting IDs) and the bad part of town (People getting their revoked licenses back). Since that time all the DMVs in my county have implemented online scheduling of appointments, which is awesome, and much more efficient.
Actually, I have. I've been training in several martial arts for over 18 years now (2nd Degree in Aikido, 1st degree in Tang Su Do, minimal training in Pentjak Silat). If you use your head, 10 people is not an impossible task. And I'm not saying you shouldn't be running as soon as you get a chance. I'm saying that with 10+ people around you, it's not impossible to get that chance, especially if you have a weapon, and your opponents do not.
Think about it this way, 10 people bare knuckled, me with a butterfly knife. You think I can't cut enough people to get away?
There's a trick behind multiple attackers. 10 attackers is quite a few, and is very difficult, but not at all impossible if you're well trained and well prepared. Assuming you have some sort of weapon that the attackers don't (you're batman, right?) helps out.
The trick behind multiple attackers is moving around enough so that they eventually line up and come at you one or two at a time. If they've completely surrounded you you're in a bit of a mess, but usually there's a weak point of the circle that you can brute force your way through to get to the outside, then work on the 5 D's (Dodge duck dip dive dodge) until they move from a large group all coming at you atonce to a line trying to chase you. Groups are notoriously easy to guide. Another tactic is to sort of move like a sheep dog, circling them until they start bunching up in the middle, then hopefully getting the hell out of there (This will give you a head start, bunches have a harder time getting up to speed).
Assuming they don't want to hit their own men, this is completely doable. If you have a decent weapon (a long stick does wonders), you'd be perfectly capable. Not saying you're not in trouble with 10+ guys attacking you, I'm not saying you'd come out unscathed, not saying you'd always win, or that you should try it. But a person can do this, so its not impossible, and it'd be stupid to give up.
Tesla was a moderately popular metal band in the 80's. Most people know how to pronounce it from them. Who the hell do you talk to on an everyday basis?
If you plan on carrying a generator in the back of your Tesla, you're first completely unaware of the perks of a carbon fiber body (hint: weight!), and second completely unaware of the amount of storage space currently available in any sports car. Generators are big and heavy.
A teacher's job is not to tell the children what some people believe, his job is to teach what is known to be the most accurate theory in existence.
That's not true at all. Teachers should be helping students get a balanced world view. Students need to know that there are people that don't agree with the common opinion. In fact, I think this is of the utmost importance for teaching children to think critically about the facts they are given.
I'm not saying students should be taught ID as a valid alternative theory to Evolution, but your assertation that uncommon, even invalid positions should not be even mentioned in the classroom is ridiculous.
You can't learn with only facts. You have to compare facts to fiction to learn to think, otherwise you're just a dictionary.
Well, life on another planet basically kills the idea of a human-centric universe. If there's life on the closest planets to us, it's basically impossible for us to be the only intelligent life forms out there.
Well no one's sure about Hugh's acting talent, either, but that didn't seem to stop him.
They don't sell them to the public...

Why would you EVER want to DECREASE the size of a beer can?!?!
Blasphemer...
I don't see why you couldn't just SSH into it, though I guess we're assuming you don't have another computer?

I've been to that Texas Roadhouse....
I think step 1 is the ?????????. And the profit is $1 million, as you would have solved P=NP.

Or possibly...more intimidating?
10-12 years to get all that spare cash too? I think we should train Bill Gates to be batman. How long until I can be Iron Man?

It was the gay porn submitted as evidence. As much as they love their censorship, they hate their gays more.
