  1. Re:Electrons no different on Are 'Monster' Cables Worth It? · · Score: 1

If anyone is wondering about the credibility of claims by the high-end cable manufacturers, notice that some brands of cable have an arrow on them, and they say you should use the cable so that the signal flows in the direction of the arrow.

They're *AC* signals. If the cable works better in one direction than another, that's called a "diode." Probably not what you want in the signal path of your $1000 home entertainment system.

  2. Re:Best Buy on Dealing with Extended Warranty Vendors? · · Score: 1

I had a laptop with a bad enter key. Took it to Best Buy under their extended warranty and they had to send it out to Sony. Sony returned it with a note that they repaired the key and reformated my hard drive! A coworker had the same problem and the same experience.

I think their repair procedure looks like this:
    1. Reformat hard drive
    2. Did this fix problem?
    3. If no, now try and fix it.
More Sony's fault than Best Buy's.
I had my important stuff backed up but it was still a royal pain to re-install everything.

  5. Re:Yay! Cord blood! on Paralyzed Woman Walks Again · · Score: 1

Adult stem cells are not equal to embryonic stem cells are not equal to cord blood stem cells. The main argument against stem cell research is that it will "promote abortions". All of the required "embryonic" stem cells can come from the 1000's of 8-cell blastocytes that are destroyed or frozen every day as part of the in-vitro ferilization process. No abortions required.

This is why government policy (and hence scientific research) should not be influenced by religious beliefs.

No. It's a sad, sad, day for America. It's just that only 50% of the people realize it. It's also a sad, sad day for the world. Most of those people do realize it.

Please don't "not vote" just because your state is already "won". This is what the Republicans want. Read this by Michael Moore . Your state may be marginal. Also, it's important that Kerry be given a clear mandate. (Unless you're going to vote for Bush, then by all means stay home.)

What would be the point of having a patent if you couldn't use it?
Many companies, especially larger ones, sometimes file patents strictly for defensive purposes. They don't intend to chase other people for using the idea, but they want to make sure that no one else can prevent them from using it.

I use a freeware app called ToDoList from Abstract Spoon Software. It is hosted on The Code Project. You can download it (with source code) here.

Lightweight and simple, it does what I want and not much more. Has a nice feature that lets you automatically export to an HTML file, so you can easily publish it for others to read.
