If it takes you weeks to read 224 pages, I think you have bigger problems than smoking. 4-6 hours tops. And that's if you slow down to reread a chapter because you don't believe how simple it is. Heh.
If that shot cost $20, I'd be all over it, but my guess is we're talking several hundred dollars minimum. And it only has a 50% success rate - as opposed to 90% for easyway.

It's hard to see how cool it will be when there are real apps for it, but it will get there.
As to all the whining about it being offline when you are - well, so is your IM client, and that's the realm that these apps will start falling into...
I don't know how to overcome the fear, but it *is* important to rationalize and notice the difference between perceived risk and actual risk.
In the scale of things, dying in a terrorist attack is miniscule in terms of risk. If we had another attack on the scale of 9/11, we'd be looking at 3,000 dead. In a population of 20,000,000 - that's a 0.15% chance of dying - *if* there's an attack.
On the other hand, there are 40,000 deaths from car crashes every year in the US - that's about 13 9/11 attacks EVERY YEAR (yes, I know, I'm not including attributable deaths, but it's close).
But are you scared of driving? If not, why not?

I enjoyed Reloaded more - but that only works as a whole if you disregard the hack job that was Revolutions. After the second film, the possibilities were exciting. Until Revolutions came along and the plot dissolved into a shoot 'em up.
Then they would tell me that English isn't their first language and I would use a different approach. ffs, it's an *example* of making people think, not the 100% foolproof method.
Forgive my naivety here, but surely there's a difference. Capchas tend to follow a consistent setup, making a logical approach possible.
Obviously my approach above isn't something that would be difficult to break on its own, but it's an example of making the person on the other end actually *think*. Depending on the reply I might ask what the sum of the number of words in the next sentence I type is plus the number of vowels.
Can you see how this suggests thinking?

As to people in other replies who say the speaker may not have English as their first language, I always thought the point of these tests was to test an English speaker? Obviously it's a moot point if otherwise. All the "alice" bots (etc) I've communicated with have written in English, so it's not an unfair assumption to make.

I might be in the minority, but I've learned to love the challenge of taming a beast of a code base.
Coming in and helping out people who don't have *anything* in place and slowly adding order has a satisfaction level all of its own.
Building out a test suite as we document business logic and then planning a refactoring can be rewarding too!
