    So even though I know how to fix my own bike, i should take it to a "specialist" who will charge me 10x more to get the job done than if i had purchased the parts myself?

    Also, being such a tall order, a lot of other comments would better qualify as "go(ing) against the very essence of civilization."

    You do seem to acknowledge the danger of "specialists", and something about ruling powers and oppression, so I think you're supporting the "do it yourself" mentality. One which i hope will repopulate all aspects of our lives, like growing your own food.

    The scalability on your idea is huge. How about a timeline where events don't occur until a given date?

    Congrats. You have won a USB drive. Now wait until Jan 31 or later and check back.

    2GB is a lot of space to fill, unless video is involved - but you don't have fill it. Some of the 50 receivers may not have USB sticks and may appreciate one.

    They rank candidates on a merit system. A masters has more merit than a Bachelors, but ~2 years experience will cancel that out. But a Masters will give you more opportunity to advance, basically all management (read: do nothing) jobs in the government require a Masters.

    This is Canada, US or whereever may be different.

    plus, automobiles are taxpayer subsidized indirectly through things like roads, emergency response, justice system overhead, insurance claims... The cost is staggering.

    If their goal is to get windows for cheap, then yes this course of action will work. Only time will tell if it's all a ploy. I hope they do adopt FOSS, maybe other countries will follow suit.

    And a lot of people will not be happy that they can't do X like they did before.

    I don't think the people working for the Government of Vietnam are going to be very vocal about this.

    It boils down to money, and national security. Why would they want a proprietary (foreign!) system like Windows when they can have something for free that their army of programmers can tweak and maintain? Their support will come from within, while creating a competent programmer workforce.

    a campy 1950's education program in all our schools that teaches the youngn's of Canada DUCK DUCK MOOSE. Some silly amusement for the kids,yyes, but that stuff becomes ingrained, and the end result is less moose and moose-like object related deaths.

    If politics were based entirely on weather, you would be correct. Canadians would have ATV spec tires on their vehicles (moosedozers) with 6" (15cm) titanium spikes protruding.

    Canada, however, is not yet officially a state of your great country; we have some wacky laws. I think this particular one has to do with road wear. I would hope if you were backcountry the legality if applicable would be overlooked for practical reasons. There is an easy solution for the city folk: chains are legal.*

    When comparing our 2 sets of laws, Canada to the US, I would take the former. But I'd happily trade up.

    While I agree "mocking them" is lame, since a feeling of superiority will only alienate a person further, it's still good to make light of these situations. Naive users honestly try hard, hilariously at times, but they are not "dumb".

    google.com.au and google.ca both have "google" as #6 most popular. I assume it is to get the american/.com version of google... in the laziest way possible.
