What the heck? Well in that case, lets ban talking, pens, paper, phones, or any other form of communication too! OMG terrorists are using human speech and are TALKING in person to communicate. We must control and ban all talking in any language!! ZOMG!/sarcasm
A few FIOS people in my office have their POTS but that's because they told Verizon they have alarm systems that use POTS to call the police. By law, this line cannot be cut.
Give me a break... Carbon fiber has been used in aircraft for awhile already - many of the private jets now are made of them. McClauren F1 is made of them, along with many other exotic sports cars. Gizmondo survived his crash in his carbon fiber sports car accident. Some computers are now made of carbon fiber housing to safe weight, Motion Computing Tablets for example.
Reminds me the beating that fiberglass took when it started becoming widely used in the 80's, then was found just as good. (now being replaced by carbon fiber which is stronger)
The bottom line is where it's at. If they can sell old technology and still charge a crazy premium for it, it means they can 1. buy the phones at a low cost, and 2. sell them at a high cost, on top of locking in a 2 year contract that ensures them monthly cash flows for the next 24 months. Rinse, repeat, and rape the pocket.
Anyone remember the whole Newark (NY/NJ) port authority being managed by Dubai Ports Authority being shot down because it was a middle east entity, despite the fact it was the best in class around with world (heck they did a great job with managing London's ports). Anyways, under the same circumstances and bias (where ever that came from) should apply in this case, and Haliburton should be banned.:p LOL
I had a lengthy discussion on IRC last night on Alternet #gopherfix on how to come up with a better solution to have this fixed in a fashion where it could be SMS scriptable.
We finally came to the conclusion that you could go in the registry for this setting: "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\gopher\shell\open\com mand="
And leave the value blank. This will prevent gopher from running commands.
I bet that posting was from the president of cihost himself! I heard he put out cease-and-desist orders on serveral sites in the past for talking about cihost's poor service. Since he can't do that here, he'll post crap like this...
I'm still looking for the contact information of the person who's started the class action suit. If anyone knows the name, address, email and phone #, please email me at: ejs211@stern.nyu.edu
I luckily paid cihost using American Express which has a huge dept. with handling cases like this. They said they might categorize this as "fraud" since I told them what happened, and gave them the links to the articles online, and told them that I could not contact cihost to kill the billing. So they tried to contact cihost about the billing conflict, and called me back telling me that they cancel the charges since even -=THEY=- cant contact cihost.
As for my problem of releasing the damn domain name to simplenet (where I switched), I contacted my lawyer. He basically wrote up an offical legal request with certified mail and return receipt, to release the domain name by next wednesday, or they will be taken to court on grounds of false imprisonment and computer theft.
I'm still looking for the contact information of the person who's started the class action suit. If anyone knows the name, address, email and phone #, please email me at: ejs211@stern.nyu.edu
I switched to simplenet, who has my domain now. The only problem is that cihost needs to release my domain so that it can propagate. Too bad these jerks took their phones off the hook. I even went so far as to call their local phone # in texas. I also have sent them 3 faxes a day every day since the outage on a response, and filed an online trouble ticket every day on their site.
I see they finally changed their little y2k problem... but if someone didn't get to see it, you can check the screenshot on my site at:
http://www.stern.nyu.edu/~ejs211
BTW- I also have a description of my nightmare with cihost on the rantings section... Well I guess we'll have to sit here and wait till these jerks put the phone back on the hook so I can tell them to kill my account. Oh yeah... and yesterday (get this) they -=BILLED=- my account for another 27 bucks... I called American Express and told them the story, forwarded them the article on cnet, and pointed them to slashdot to verify the problem. Even American Express told me that they'd kill the bill since even -=THEY=- could not contact Cihost.
As I've stated in my other posts, if someone files a class action suit, please email me. If the suit has a lot of power, I may contribute one or two thousand dollars to help legal fees.
I'm just fuming at these jerks, and they deserve what's coming to them.
CIHost is back up today... Their websites work now, my webpages work now, and email is finally speedy. However their website is still not Y2K compliant... For some reason if the site goes down during the day, you can view the funny screenshot on my personal webpage:
http://www.stern.nyu.edu/~ejs211
For those who missed the article on CNet, here's the link
Simpletnet should have my domain moved by today. I just hope cihost's lines are open so I can cancel. I wonder if I will get reinbursed.
They still give no sign to calm down people... No official statement. These people are screwed... Their attitude of the customer is always wrong is going to screw them over big time. I hope they go bankrupt because of their own evil ways.
I host one of my other sites, kblvd.com on 9netave.com. They're really good. Have been there since 1998. The tech support is impeccable, although it's nothing compared mindspring. Mindspring is a great host, especially if you're going to expand to a larger e-commerce or big sized dot-com company. My friend Joe Park hosts his Kozmo.com off of mindspring as well. It's a bit expensive, but that's what you get for REAL 24/7 live tech support without the wait. You call them, and they take care of the problem. 9netave, has nice tech support and is cheaper, but the techies aren't as versatile and well versed as mindspring folk... Nonetheless 9netave is a million times greater than cihost (ShitCo).
CIHost is still down... I called simpletnet today to finalize my switchover and told them the CIHost story... I asked them how they would switch the domains (essentially having cihost release my domain) Basically they took down the info I have with InterNIC and they said that they'd take care of all the things, and I need not worry, and that I should be up in 24 hours. Hey no toll free #, but I talked to a live person in literally 37 seconds (I used a timer) even when it's a long distance call. The total conversation took less than 5 minutes and they answered all my questions... Looks like the start of a beautiful relationship.:-)
CIHost says that this ain't a Y2K problem? Even though the site is down AGAIN, I managed to pull up a cached copy of the website and take a nice screenshot. Which proves how blatantly absurd this is. If anyone wants to see it, go to:
http://www.stern.nyu.edu/~ejs211
Today's outage makes it 7 days. 7/365= 2%!! 100% uptime minus 2% equals 98% uptime. So where's my guarentee now? I smell class action lawsuit. According to that cnet news article, CIhost serves up 48,000 domains. And assuming that all of them are using that monthly special thingy, they're revenues for the year are about $17.28 million. However add their corporate clients which listed McDonalds, GTE, and some other noteworthy companies, they're probably a $20 million company. I just hope these companies didn't run their databases on the websites during Y2K rollover weekend... It's critical that servers be up... (hehe... that's why I get paid to for Y2K)
Anyhow, I've already posted my rantings on my horrible expierience with CIHost earlier (search for my email - for some reason it posted anonymously, but I left my email in the message). I've already packed my bags and shipped off to simpletnet.com. I have another site that I run off of simplenet.com and 2 at 9netave.com (which is actually Concentric Networks... shhh... it's a secret!). Simplenet I like since they truely offer unlimited bandwidth (I get about 70 gigs of traffic a month!) and unlimmited webspace (trust me I got about 1.8 gigs there). The downside is they don't give you a lot of pop emails, but for 25 bucks a month, what could you ask for? 9netave, is limited, but offers a lot of pop emails. And being that it's Concentric Networks, you know it's not going down... What I like is that reseller program, where you can create all the domain names you want...
I'm sick of this BS with CI Host, and their phone lines are still off the hook... I've been trying to cancel my account since sat. and I can't do it by phone, email, or even online. I've sent faxes with a request that someone please call me to explain WTF is going on, and so I can pull the plug on my account. Anyhow, if anyone is filing a class action lawsuit, email me and consider me in... I might even pitch in some money (maybe a thousand or two) to cover legal costs...
Does "Hello World!" count? LOL

I wonder how much Airbus paid him to scream? LOL just kidding.

So this is just government priced translucent mylar?
Use this counter-script! I remember someone posting about this counter-script awhile back and it's been on my bookmarks every since!
It's pretty funny!

at 48,000 domains (according to CNET) at $27 a pop that's a loss over a million and a half dollars...
