  1. Can you create something yourself on Ask Slashdot: How Do I De-Dupe a System With 4.2 Million Files? · · Score: 1

I don't know why people are recommending you use "find', "awk", "grep" etc when you clearly stated that this is a Windows 7 environment. In any case a quick VB Net program I just created processed 43,800 files in 10 seconds. It would be faster but you must catch "Access Denied" errors for Folders like "System Volume Information" - extrapolating tells me 4 million files at 4000/sec means 15+ minutes to create a file with "Path" [TAB] "Name" [TAB] "Size". Adding a hash would add significantly to the processing time but it could be done easily. Question is if you have the tool(s) and ability to create something. Once the file is crreated you still have to parse it, sort it and flag the dupes.

I worked for years in the textile industry. One plant had a "dry cleaning" machine for raw fabric that used perchloroethylene, it was heated, sprayed through the fabric, then the fabric was run through a pool of Perc. The dirty perc was distilled for re-use, all we had to do was pull out a big tray of sludge but we seldom added fresh perc to it. No noticeable smell around the maching or in the sludge. Company was RIMAR SP now known as Sperotto Rimar. I am pretty sure trichlorethane/trichlorethylene can be redistilled and re-used also. Cheaper to just dump it I guess.....
