That's exactly the opposite I see. While there are a surprising amount of guys (surprising to me at least, most guys I know have no rythym at all,) the players I do see are predominantely female. I'd say like 70%.
We've got a DDR machine or two at every arcade in the area (South Florida) and they are always booming with people. There's usually a line, though many are just spectators. You don't see anything like that for the racers, shooters, or fighters in the arcades. Actually, I'm seeing fewer and fewers racers, shooters, and fighters all together:-/
Xenosaga (and gears) is also steeped in judeo christian mythology/legend/scripture. The thing is it gets by all the crazies who would complain about it because they aren't educated enough in their own religion to even catch the references.
This is a generalization, I know, but it's also generally true!
That this is because of the xbox's pc architecture? The xbox is one cool little gizmo because essentially it's a PC with excellent tv connectivity. That's about it, nothing else novel about it. Like all MS lines, it has a GREAT business strategy behind it, that's why they're rich don't forget.
But honestly... xbox is getting these titles because of it's nature, it's much easier to take a game developed for the pc, and bring it over (either as a port, or side development project) than it is to port it to an entirely different architecture.
If the xbox was a traditional console, it would NOT have these titles. It's a no brainer for the developers. Take your excellent pc titles (for which the market is waning) put them on a PC/Console thingy for a lot less cost, and reap the profits.
The summary of the article is entirely unfair and presents the original authors view in a light which HE did not intend. This should be obvious to anyone who reads the article... sometimes I wonder why I still read this site.
People often compare the "Gillette" model to the computer industry, specifically with printers and games.
On some levels the analogy makes sense: you get the "base product" cheaply then are inclined to be a repeate customer generating continuous revenue for the company. On other levels, this is RETARDED.
Razor handles are a chunk of plastic. They do NOTHING. They're just a handle, a mounting point for the blades. Do you really think they're losing anything? They cost less to make than the blades do, of COURSE they're giving them away.
You can't really compre a chunk of plastic to a printer or gaming console. For hardware, it's a marketing tactic. For Gillette it's... nothing!
I've dealt with java on dozens of project. I've never claimed once to know it, nor will I ever.
I've never seen a situation where java was a good solution. I've seen plenty of places where java could be used.. but with the very very few people who are good with it (even fewer than those that "know" it) it's just inviting bugs and an ongoing project.
You all are familiar with it I'm sure. The smell of new plastic, of antistatic bags, motherboard, ram chips, pc cases. When you first open the box and bring them out that subtle waft of the smell of progress!
The only way this company can survive is offering incredible customer service. I'm personally quite surprised they're charging the same price. I suppose they don't want to get into a rate war, which they'd loose since they don't have a foothold yet.
I see no reason to use them yet. If they don't offer SOME form of incentive to use them, they'll die.
What do the fools think RedHat has done wrong? I've heard "They're greedy megalomaniacs," or something along those lines. If true, how does that affect anything?
You fools need to realize that other people are not working for your benefit. They work for their own, as should you. The cooperation and sharing of ideas that GNU and GPL promote is a wonderful thing. This does not, however, mean that everyone else should do work for your benefit.
I've been seeing a lot of disturbing sentiments lately. People saying that "no, can't do this, it doesn't help the community." Wake up fools. That's not their responsibility, it is only, a possibility.
Do not expect others to give to you through Altruism. Most of you that complain don't contribute yourselves, many probably don't even code. But I digress...
More to the point. Redhat is suceeding and growing, and profitting. Good for them. Wonderful. There are benefits we all receive from this. It is their right to do business as they see fit. Enough of the jealousy and fear and hatred of success. Go away, let us that know how to succeed do so.
I agree with the assesment of RMS. He's a very intelligent man, who's done quite a few good things. A lot of what he's done benefits me. But reading his rants always infuriates me. Rarely does he use rationality. He seems to be a wanna be altruist. I'm not sure if that's worse than an altruist, or better...
Love the tagline/sig there, mind if I adopt it?

... hehe I guess that's ironic.

I love you!
Where were rational people like you on slashdot back when the US was fighting MS?
You're thinking of another forum clearly. This forum is for spreading a few prevailing opinions that aren't founded in reason or logic of any sort.
you damn commie bastards.
From a distance, at a glance, all those slabs of bedrock there look like a row of building foundations, a little map sort of.
Yay Martians!
Well said. 100% agreement with you there. If I was moderating I would label this as insightful.
Good christians wouldn't care either.. but you know how that goes.
