PC gaming is dying. I haven't seen anything original in a good while. Doom3 tried but it just wasn't clever. Halflife 2 is excellent, but just an evolution, not an innovation. I haven't seen anything interesting and new in the RTS scene since Homeworld.
Console gaming is going strong with innovative new styles and methods like the gyro in the PSP, the mic and touch screen of the DS.
Katamari Damashi.
The Eye Toy, though it's not really all that popular in the US.
I recently moved all my domains to a new server, updating dns AND DNS servers in some cases. Road Runner totally screwed this process up for me. I don't host with them, but a lot of people that visit my websites use them as an ISP.
Over two weeks after dns had propogated succesfully elsewhere, roadrunner was still serving up old IP's. This affected about 5 of my sites adversely. Some of which had owners using RR, some had clients using RR. Basically a huge cluster@#*! And of course, RR techsupport had no idea what I was talking about, and couldn't direct me to someone that did.
Concept = great CG = great Director of Photography = very good (composition of scenes and such is not half bad!)
Acting = apalling
A lot of the little oddities would be helped if they convert it over to 24fps, that would make it feel much more film like instead of someone's garage project... even though it IS someone's garage project. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I think it's completely awesome that they've put this much effort into it.
Slashdot is still one of the best places for techy news, however every other category seems to be going to crap.
Most everything listed is on fark about 4-12 hours earlier. When it finally gets on to slashdot, it's got a very FUD bias. This summary for example, fails to mention that the man being sentenced admitted he did this on purpose. 25 years seems fine to me.
I know this is to make things more interesting/sensational, but really: Isn't the audience of slashdot supposed to be those above average? Geeks. People who pride themselves on their minds... not drama, sensationalism, etc?
Or am I completely wrong, and the slashdot audience has become the lowest common denominator. If that's the case it makes sense to spew out FUD like this every day to get them riled up about their rights... even when there ISNT any danger to them?
No media outlet I saw reported that youth numbers dwindled, or were "the same as 2000." They reported percentages. They also reported total votes, etc. They made a big deal about how this was one of the largest voter turnouts in decades.
Seriously, if people can't put 1 and 1 together, why are they reading slashdot... a place for geek minded?
Voting irregularities happen all the time. When dealing with so many from so many places.. it's hard to do the job right. New systems, old systems, operator error, etc... these all go into effect. What purpose is posting an article like this with so little information about WHERE the votes were cast, or which votes were suppressed? It means NOTHING! Suppose all votes suppressed were for kerry, and all "extra" votes were for bush? Ok then you'd have an article! As it is you've got nothing more than sensationalist CRAP to stir up impressionable people that don't have the time to do the research on their own. Posting such drivel is highly irresponsible.
Did anyone here the call for unity by John Kerry? How about the one from Bush?
Kerry was a big man conceding as early as he did, he didn't have to, but he chose to make a difference in the best way he could... trying to help unify the nation after such a bitter election.
Will play DVDs region free, divx, xvid, quicktime, wmv, mpeg, avi, dv, mp3, view photos/slideshow, stream mp3 from internet radio stations, get the weather... etc.
Only true geeks will want the hardware mentioned in the article... and true geeks can do much better, cheaper, and have more fun doing it themselves.
Easily one of the most creative games I've played in years. Very simple gameplay mechanics, HUGE world to explore, addictive, and.. *GASP* FUN!
Anyone can pick this game up and love it. I mean anyone. Very quirky humor, 100% replayable.. many many times. Amazingly good soundtrack.
If there was a legit video game awards this should get game of the year, or decade. I'd say it's as ground breaking in creativity/addictivity as tetris was in it's day.
I have yet to see any good ebook hardware. I see some that's decent, but overpriced, short battery life, crappy screen, too big, etc.
Then comes the books, this is less of a problem, because there are actually a lot of GOOD books out there in the e-book world. I would be buying and reading a lot of them if I had hardware to use to do so.. but I don't want to sit at my computer monitor to read, I do that to work. I want to take my ebook device out under the shade of a mangrove tree by my canal and enjoy hearing the birds, water, and wildlife. Or be able to stretch out in my recliner and read... etc.
I would LOVE to be able to get all of my library on ebook, I'd get like 200 square feet more usable space out of my apartment.
That's kind of what I already said. You have to use the existing tools to your advantage.
There are no existing tools for virtual property markets.
I don't really think there should be. Yes, you may lose customers, but you don't lose money. Taking a risk where you can lose money in fraud/theft instead of simply not making it, is idiotic. It's their choice if they want to do that of course... everyone has the right to be stupid.
What you need to do is ship a cd to the buyer with the codes to access the virtual items/characters.
That is a physical delivery, and paypal WILL support you and help you solve your problem. Very sad that you had this problem, but you need to make sure to use any/all services you subscribe to your advantage and not blindly trust in your customers. There are a lot of people that will do you much worse than a couple thousand given the opportunity.
Digital is at and beyond 10 MP. Mamiya has a 22 MP digital slr dubbed as a "medium format" digital.
But truthfully you don't need 10 MP to make a good 8x10, If you have a good photo on a 3 megapixel you can get a _decent_ 8x10. 5 MP you can get a great one. It depends a lot more on the quality of the photgrapher than the MP of the camera.
Also important to consider, most people just starting out in photography aren't going to want to print 8x10 often, if at all. This guy seems to want a learning medium which digital is perfect for as you only have re-occuring costs when you want to get prints.
This is the only "entry" level digital SLR. Plenty of features, low price point, excellent camera.
You don't have all the professional features of a canon d10 or nikon d70 or higher, but you want an entry level right?
I'd say go with canon because they've only changed their lens format once. Much better chance of being able to get good used equipment/sell your use equipment when you want to upgrade.
This is the only thing an xbox is good for in my opinion. I have a ps2 and gamecube for games, so who needs another console.. none of the xbox only titles have really drug me in.
But being able to RUN this software and have an excellent connection to your tv (composite, svideo, component, etc) that even supports HD is what makes it king. It's not the processor or ram or anything else just the flexibility of being able to run the code and the output hardware.
There is a media player for PS2 which can play divx, mp3, xvid, ogm, jpg etc etc but it's FAR from the quality of the xbox media player, and much harder to get running well. The xbox's pc architecture really helps in the homebrew area!
On combustion engines that use the standard rings to seal pistons, you're not going to see your optimum mileage for several thousand miles. Depends on tolerances and manufacturer of course, but I've had several cars that their mileage/power output increased steadily up till about 8000 miles.
Also, as everyone's already pointed out, how you drive plays a big role, as well as tire pressure, and where you're driving.
I'm trying to sell my neon currently. Great car but I've moved on. It's a 2.0 litre gas engine (manual transmission), and I've gotten 45 mpg on roadtrips with it. It dynos at about 140 hp. It's not all about the power, it's about how efficiently you make the power and definitely how you use it. People should have to take a class when they buy a hybrid as it's my experience that most people don't know how to drive a NORMAL car properly.
I agree with you completely. Cutting down emissions is a good idea as long as it's done rationally.
Smog warnings and global warming are not directly related though. There's plenty of pollution that needs to be cleaned up down here at our level before we worry about the upper atmosphere.
I fail to see how I'm crackpot. We have no proof that our emissions are affecting the climate in a substantial manner. As I said, yes they are affecting it, to what degree we have yet to find out, and I definitely agree that lower emissions is not a bad idea.
However it is not the CAUSE of the problem. Do some digging on your own, the earth has been far hotter than it is now even before we were industrialized.
yeah, look out... here come melting ice caps.. ahhhhg! run for your lives.
Seriously though, there's millions of years of evidence of earth going in cycles of warming and cooling. I've never understood why this is even a debate. Yes global warming exists, yes global cooling exists. What are the causes? There's thousands of factors. Are we causing our demise by driving around? No. Factories killing us? No. Do those things contribute? Sure!
I think that could be said for food and.. well anything brittish.

On the projects we create internally which are applicable to other businesses, even competitors, we sell the source if there is a market.
Why would we give it away for free?
Concept = great
CG = great
Director of Photography = very good (composition of scenes and such is not half bad!)
Acting = apalling

Open source is a niche. It doesn't belong in high end specifically tasked hardware.
Not very complex... not very feature rich, but pretty nice.

What happened to real reporting?
Linux doesn't come close to comparing with windows or a mac in photo utilities. It's a shame too.
Gimp is nice, and making progress but it's still lightyears behind photoshop.
As far as hardware, reference photo.net. They will point you in the right direction for scanning in your slides.
Seriously.. How is this not completely obvious?

Apparently no one listened.

Hi. I'm Mr. Obvious.
He asked about digital SLR's, not non-SLR.
Thanks. You've been a great audience! I'll be here all week!
