  1. Re:My Opinion on Winning Critical Acclaim · · Score: -1

Deefhoof and Xiu Xiu both rule. I'd just want to reinforce that.

  2. Famous musicians using Circuiting Bent Instruments on Consumer Electronics Make Music · · Score: -1

With the ending of No Fun Fest in New York, the biggest of the bands that circuit bent is now releasing an EP on Nirvana's old label, Subpop.

They are called Wolf Eyes. Toy electronics everywhere and homemade gizmos. Even Andrew WK was a member of this band (See Wire magazine).

It is also known that Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails use these.

Also Portishead uses a circuit bent Casio SK-1.

  3. Re:egads on Consumer Electronics Make Music · · Score: -1

Good joke. One of the larger bands that have many circuit bent electronics is releasing an EP on Nirvana's old label, Subpop.

    They are called Wolf Eyes.

Even Trent Reznor used circuit bent instruments.

  4. Ranting... on Captured! By Robots - A Musical/Mechanical Marvel? · · Score: -1

This is more of rant than anything else. Although the guy and his machines visit Des Moines, Iowa often, I do not see why he deserves exposure other than the fact he uses robots. More people use automated machines, just not as glorified or personalized (effects pedals, samples, etc.)

Kraftwerk deserves more exposure than this guy!

  5. Possibly... on The Incredible Shrinking Recording Studio · · Score: -1

Does this mean I can finally record that rock opera I've always dreamed about?

Maybe, but it doesn't mean it's not going to suck.

  6. coding on File-Sharing Ethics Taught In Classrooms? · · Score: -1

I wonder how many lines of code it actually takes to make this game. Any bets?

  7. Ink over paint? on Nokia Shows Off Phone with Printable Faceplate · · Score: -1

I think it is much cheaper and easier to paint or stencil a design of your own...at least more original.

  8. This is a major problem. on The Effect of Pirated CDs · · Score: 0, Informative

I'm not sure that I agree that piracy is the reason for all of the music industry woes - I think creativity also has something to do with it, but those are still some huge numbers for pirated CDs.

Are you insane? I have been to Malaysia and every CD cost $1 and instead of audio CDs a lot of times, they throw in a hundred or so MP3s on a disk.

  9. This makes no sense! on House Bill to Make File-Sharing an Automatic Felony · · Score: -1

The huge majority of file I have shared are either not copyrighted, or allowed to be distributed freely. How does this make it a felony? Well, I'm hoping that the House isn't numb in the brain and ignore the introduction to the bill.

  10. Re:Mesaly? on How Labels And Artists Divvy Up Your Dollar Online · · Score: -1

The record company is doing the work, but how they are paid is from the cutting of the artists' paycheck.

  11. pooh on Google To Create "Blog" Search; Potentially Remove From Main · · Score: -1

that's no fun. they'll be less returns on my name now.

  12. New convenient technology bad? on Cheap Audio Production · · Score: -1

The White Stripes's last album was recording in a studio in London where nothing was older than 1960. They are very anti-pro tools where as the drummer from No Doubt is a procrastinator and chose to just drum for only so long and loop the rest into the song.

I really don't know where I am taking this, but I think this just people more lazy when producing music.

  13. Donations?! on RIAA Settles Suits Against Students · · Score: -1

Is there a way to donate money to the students to help pay their settlement costs? I would love to see other music sharers partially pay for the students' settlements since it would surely anger the RIAA.

  14. New Lingo? on The Googlewashing Of Our Language · · Score: 0

Has anyone changed their tongue due to works from google? I haven't modified my vocabulary with words like googling, but I have used l337 sp34k as a joke.

  15. free mp3s perhaps? on RIAA Moves Against College-Network Fileswapping · · Score: -1

It's odd that the RIAA is trying to get a hold on the network operators for fileswapping music. Half of my mp3 collection is gathered either from my CDs or from the artist's or label's website.

  16. not cool on Voice Communication & Gaming Etiquette · · Score: -1

It's somewhat sad that even gamers are racists.

  17. Irony... on Why Nerds Are Unpopular · · Score: -1

That's very contridictory at my school. The smartest kid is in the varsity tennis team, scored perfectly on his SATs, and literally gets drunk almost every weekend. Any explanation?

  18. cooperation on KDE And Gnome Cooperate On Interface Guidelines · · Score: -1

I am very glad that they are teaming together to set guidelines. Although I run Linux as my webserver, I am too incompetant to hack Gnome and KDE. Perhaps this will be much easier.

  19. Blood clots is just an excuse. on Long Computer Sessions Could Cause Blood Clots · · Score: 1

Blood clots should not be the only reason you should get off the computer for brief periods. Although we live in a culture where we are hooked to the internet like our coffee in the morning, we should really take breaks and see how unique the outside world is like. Fortunately, being in a band makes me get up and just play guitar or whatever before spending massive amounts of time on the computer.

  20. Re:interestingly enough... on How Much Does it Cost to Produce a Recording? · · Score: 0, Interesting
Unfortunately the majority of listeners are too lazy to discover music themselves. Instead, radio and television dictates what they listen to. Occasionally they may bump into a college radio station they may enjoy, but driving away from mainstream music requires an open mind, which can't be sacrificed while sitting through 2 hour traffic in the morning and evening.

Anyways, the industry buys the smaller more efficient competitors once they spurn out a fairly popular genre. Moon Ska records was offered 2 million dollars, but they rejected the offer based on ideals and they went bankrupt a few years after.

  21. Good sign? on Microsoft to Buy Vivendi Games Division? · · Score: -1

Although I detest most of the products Microsoft has made for personal and professional computers, it would be nice to see a good port of Counter-Strike and Half-life for the Xbox with multiplayer support.

  24. Just like... on Success Despite College Rejection · · Score: -1

Bill Gates. Didn't he drop out of college? Look where he is now.

I also think that most of founders of fast food restaurants started out with hardly anything since most of them began during the Great Depression.

Thing like this make me wonder what colleges I should be applying to.
