  2. It's doing well in the enterprise because it's bundled with Office which is the default suite of business applications: not because it's doing quite well as a communication tool on its own. My division deals with constant gripes from the end-users regarding UI/UX quirks related to Skype for Business.

Twenty year old products such as AOL Instant Messenger still beat out Skype and Skype for Business when it comes to user experience and commonsense UI design. I'm sure some Slashdot members would ask me to cite examples, but I don't have that much time to dedicate to bitching about Skype at the moment.

  3. If we all followed this logic on 'WannaCry Makes an Easy Case For Linux' (techrepublic.com) · · Score: 0, Redundant

Windows is targeted because it's popular. If we all switched to Linux as our primary workstation at home and work, it would be just as targeted. It won't be until then when we discover just how secure (or unsecure) Linux really is.

I believe there are many benefits to Linux, but the argument to move away from one insecure platform to another platform which is probably just as insecure isn't one I find very motivating.

It works after Windows 10 has spent hours/days indexing the start menu items. However, it does not work correctly on a fresh install of Windows 10 which has booted up for the first time. You know... the most likely time you would want to manually check for updates.

I couldn't have stated it better than you have here. Windows 10 offers little to no feature, function, or benefit that would motivate Windows 7 users to switch. The only thing I can think of is arguably a better interface for touch screen users. Windows 10 is crippling from an efficiency-of-use perspective. Want to update your system? Try hitting the start button in Windows 10 and type "Windows Update". The search results are ridiculous and there are literally 100s (perhaps 1000s?) of examples of clunky experiences just like this one. Getting Windows 10 to behave properly in an enterprise environment is also a nightmare. We spent weeks tinkering with Group Policies in an effort to make Windows 10 stop spying on the agency, and to stop terrorizing our end-users with frivolous prompts squirting out of every orifice in the user interface.

I bought a vehicle that can drive itself. The steering wheel and peddles looked identical to every other car I drove. One day, while using the self-driving feature in a vehicle that looked identically to every other vehicle, the car shifted right to avoid what it thought was a line in the road and it put me on a collision path with another vehicle. Had I not known the car was capable of this, it could have caused an accident. I spent 30 minutes reading the manual when I bought it; I anticipated that the vehicle would behave differently than other vehicles I had in the past, and I saved lives.
