I disagree with you. In this specific case, the erosion of US citizens rights is secondary; A primary example of the erosion of US rights is the FCC wanting to legislate morality. Another example, is the whole "prosters can only protest here" tent for political conventions, and the wide-spread arrests by police during IMF protests.
But this TSA thing; nah, its just a thorn in everyones side to make it seem like 911 will never happen again- a placating move.
See what happens. If the sheeples pony up the cash, then your IP was undervalued. BONUS TIME!
If your labels profits are stagnant or start losing money then you need to do some back-pedaling.
Free enterprise, baby. And this crap isn't a life or death commodity. So go ahead and test the waters; I'm still listening to Jazz from the 60's (and NO, you jerks, I will not buy a re-issue!)
Sorry; wasn't intentionally going for an ad hominem attack.
That being said, not showing id and not consenting to a search bespeaks an arrogance IN MY EYES (YMMV). Perhaps not in your eyes, and hopefully not in the eyes of the law. But telling people that their job is useless and baseless in law (regardless of being true!) is a great way to "start shit." And that is what I'm calling arrogance.
What I was trying to do was give anecdotal evidence of how the little guy (who maybe can't afford lawyers) can circumvent the whole problem. Give 'em a smile, a placating word or two, and they're putty in your hand.
You should not have to depend on someone skirting the law for you...
wait, haven't we already established that its not really a law at all?;)
But maybe there is a hint of truth to your characterization of my actions; maybe being a "nice guy" is a social engineering tactic around getting hassled.
Regardless it's a free strategy. If people don't want to do it, its up to them. This is all anecdotal, and it worked for me; YMMV.
Is the whole point of this is to randomly harass not-nice people, or protect people?
Neither. If you think, even for a moment, that the "regulations" in place come close to protecting people, then I have I bridge to sell you.
Its my firm belief that the TSA is the product of a knee-jerk reaction to 9-11. Utilizing politician speak (say something enough times and it becomes true) and wide-scale cognitive dissonance, every one is lulled into a false sense of security; nudge nudge, wink wink.
We flew from BWI to SFO, and back and she had NO ID at all. not even a library card.
They just searched her. And at BWI, we were so late for the plane, they didn't even search her.
The TSA people were pretty nice about it, too. The difference between Us and John Gilmore? We're not millionaires who think bureaucracy should be spat upon at every step. Sure it sucks, but this is a persons job- show 'em some respect and they chill out (*'cept for the real jerks).
Speaking of which, you should see us get past TSA security with TWEEZERMAN tweezers- they come to two sharp points; every x-ray flags 'em. And everybody goes to their boss to double check 'em.
I understand my case is anecdotal evidence; I understand I'm not a high-bandwidth user (3 a week. I only have time to watch stuff on weekends). I also understand that the netflix service center is a stones throw from my house (I hand it to the guy or lady at the post office and they turn around and put it in the netflix bin.)
But I haven't really noticed any issues at all. Seeing the results of the testing and thinking about it logically, it seems egalitarian to give those who use the resources less a better chance at in-demand titles. Additionally, I have soooo many old and foreign movies in my queue I rarely notice any hold-ups in my queue.
The only thing I've noticed is that sometimes they will ship two movies first, wait a day, and then ship the second one. Again, I assume that was to give other users a chance at commonly desired movies.
It seems like their policies are a nice way around the Tragedy of the Commons.
I was at the USER BLUE Share conference a year and a half ago (in Washington, DC) with lots of IBM reps who could only say "LINUX LINUX LINUX LINUX!" (actually, thats not true. They said "SUSE" as well...)
Also- THEY don't sell you the LINUX, they get you in touch with SUSE who sells you the linux (blah blah blah liability). But the net effect is you running LINUX on a 615. Not bad.
you find that you've had to customize it so much that it doesn't even look like the original.
This is the "new innovation." I've only been in the game for 6 years, but every time I underestimate COTS I come out being right. Infact, I think my whole companys outlook is "we are integraters of COTS." I.E.- we write a whole mess of software to get your COTS crap working.
The best part is, I'm currently supporting COTS where the original company has gone out of business. Awesome.
So wait, the spider/e-mail harvester's access of your web pages are illicit, YET the license on those pages is now binding? Including paying fees and agreeing to be sued?
If this isn't an abuse of our legal system, then honestly, I don't know what is!!
How big is the MoBlogger community? How often do people use their phone cameras? Is it a constant thing? Or did they just set a background "Desktop pic" of their cat and then didn't use the camera after the first month?
I see you are one of those people that like the grab anything and it feels like a titty women
Thats hysterical. I'm totally using that (however, 'll put it in quotes, like: I see you are one of those people that like the 'grab anything and it feels like a titty' women)
I mean, who cares?! Its a stupid platform that got hyped and then nobody cared about it...
oh wait.
Did I just prove the article, right there?
But seriously: This was an example of convergence that nobody really needed. I'm sure this would go down like gangbusters in Japan (cram as many features into the phone and then cram a few extra)
But this 'game+phone' doesn't tread water in the US. USians just want phones that are phones. There is already a backlash about those who have cameras.
If you're doing something with their resources like plotting against them
You've hit the nail on the head; This is like getting caught photocopying your butt on the company copier and then arguing that you have a right to privacy in the copy room.
Even in a grey area (for example, I use a PC at home to VPN to work; where is the line drawn?) the chances are still good that you most likely signed some of your right of privacy away in exchange for employment.

No wonder your country is losing its freedoms to the religious fanatics in power.
Nice Ad hominem attack! Wow! How mature of you!
Your lack of intelligence precludes me from responding.
YU0 -R- TEH SUXX0rZ!

Why do I come here anymore?
Because its easy to look smart. This is just like going to a special education class in real life.
(I was going to say "remedial class" but that gives the slash populouse way too much credit)

dude, this is totally oT, but thats a great sig!
For great justice!
Move all zig! err, zigbee.
The AIX 5 cds come with a "Tools for Linux."

If IBM were to start turning out PowerPC based Risc Boxes running Linux,
Where have you been?! IBM has been touting LINUX along with AIX5L (thats what the "L" stands for!) for over two years.
P.S.- we played around with Sun's app server... it blows. Chunks.
you find that you've had to customize it so much that it doesn't even look like the original.

I don't know about that, I'd probably hit it.

Its like the Nintendo "Game+watch": Yeah, right.
and they complimented me on my guitar playing... which was wierd but very flattering.
Our 615s in the lab take forever to reboot.
So I have a Knoppix live cd that has XGalaga on it; MAN is that fun! Now I look forward to the reboots!
That is incorrect. The Picass0 robot is malfunctioning. I will protect you from the terrible secret of Fiorina. Fiorina has a terrible power.

I believe it all Balances out; You do some good in the universe, its negated by some evil that someone does somewhere else.
Its all a wash.
as for the Karmic Balance, I believe the trolls will one day all have Karma: Excellent.
