It's been almost 10 years since i last time made anything useful with C++ and i don't really have any experience with Java. This thread still makes me wonder how can it be that memory management is an issue of any kind? Back in 90's it was not problem at all to create custom memory management class that would take care of freeing resources and even fragmentation. With Amiga and no MMU my memory management system also had simple buffer under-/overflow checking. And hey, didn't Doom 1 also have memory management (and cache) of it's own...?
So, if memory management is issue today, something is wrong...
Why would my electric company overcharge me and say that they won't give my money back? Soon they would be without customers. Incoming bills are also visible in online bank few weeks before thay are actually paid. You can easily see that they are ok.
I also have debit&credit (VISA) card, it's directly connected to my main account. It's bank and card company that is responsible for double chargin, scamming and other things like that long as i use my card as is said in contract (keep card PIN hidden, if lost report immediatly... etc). For example, if you buy something from internet and pay using VISA and never receive my package, VISA will refund my money.
I quess that is true. However, there is not much need for physical money. Some people still use it (old people, people that can't have cards...), but almost everyone pays using cards. I personally don't even have wallet that can hold physical money, it's only for cards (id, credit&debit card and some other like student card..). Parking fee, coca & cola from vending machine and similar stuff is paid using single text message. No need for coins. But i quess it's not like that everywhere.
Wow, "most advanced ATMs in the world", here in Finland we are currently moving ATM's like that to junk yard, because they are old and obsolete. Practically everyone is paying their bills using internet. I personally don't pay really any bills manually anymore, incoming bills are automatically paid from my bank account (and yes, i need to allow that once for every company that is billing me).
Here in Finland we have mooses with GPS, but they usually don't have bluetooth connections. They communicate via EDGE/3G and some mooses still like to use obsolete technology like SMS.
I can tell you that here in Finland, we very rarely tip anyone. It's not that we are 'cheap', it's just something we don't do. We of course do tip, if we are in place where it's common (like in USA for example).
I think one reason for this is that we have minimium wages and we can be sure, that pizza delivery guy and waiter in restaraunt get's paid eveery two weeks anyway.
I never even tried free version of Spotify. I don't like commercials, but biggest reason was that with premium account (10€/month) i have better bitrate, great mobile client and offline listening.
After just few weeks of using Sporify, i deleted my MP3 collection. This is first time i ever pay for music.
I saw USB sticks like this years ago. They were labeled for multi gigabyte storage, but in reality they just were small 128MB sticks formatted to bigger sizes. You can easily try this yourself with little hacking.
However, i have never heard about fake hard drives:)
Every time theres is article about KDE and GNOME, people start talking about window managers. KDE and GNOME are desktop environment. Applications made for KDE and GNOME are very very important. When i'm using KDE desktop, i use only KDE applications (generally), it would be stupid to run GNOME (gtk) applications with KDE. So i think choice beetween KDE or GNOME is about applications there are for those platforms.
All mumbojumbo about WindowMaker and Enlightenment is NOT related to this any way. Sure you can use any window manager you like with both KDE and GNOME, but that's not the point.
Sure, daylight can be a problem but i disagee that pixels are fuzzy. They can be fuzzy if you use some lowend and small projectors, but mid-end consumer stuff should be enough for production use (coding, office tools, browsing..). If focus and other things are properly adjusted, i could easily imagine myself doing work with that setup. It's actually what i do daily at home, but only using single projector.
Lamps that are rated for 2000-4000 hours, heat and price could cause issues however.
Anyone can connect three monitors to a PC. I was expecting three projectors or something else like that.
I remember that even with Windows 98 i could run game on second display and still have my Windows desktop running on the other.
Funny thing is, you can actually resell "carbon credits" for profit. And when "carbon credits" came too expensive, factories started moving to China, Africa and other places where they surely take good care of nature. All we got from that is more unemployment and higher prices for EVERYTHING (=energy). I currently pay 1.6 euros/litre when i buy normal gasoline to my car. My electric bill is 15% more this year. Heat coming to my house, is 10-15% more this year.
Long time ago, i was using a tool that let's you modify any NVidia card BIOS. I very soon had dirty words appearing when BIOS POST was running. It also made it possible to change stock GPU and memory clock frequencies.
I never have had any virus scanner running on background, i only manually run it every now and then. Never had any viruses, plenty of 'scary' cookies and stuff like that, but nothing else. This could be because i pretty much know what i'm doing, i don't search porn sites with IE6 and i only install software that i already know from somewhere.
Oh wake up. Have you tried any other Linux distributions recently, like OpenSUSE? Or Windows 7 for that matter.. or OS X? Ubuntu is a mess that just keeps changing and every new version brokes something that used to work. Sometimes they are little things that can be fixed from console and sometimes they are things that make you crazy.

With just 8 colors, Linux desktop will FLY!

Sorry, after re-reading my post, it really does look like a commercial. But it's all true, trust me... TRUE!

Cool part is, it actually works if you just use it to transfer few MS Word documents.

Then go and buy full HD projector or two. Or couple of cheaper "hd-ready" projectors.
What makes XenServer crap? I think it's great, even the free version.

*drumroll* ... and so is Steve Jobs!
You should read your home theather system manual. If that's too much, read this : http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080125184700AAB57dY

I agree with you. You should write a book. Really.

KOffice was just stupid name.
Et tu, Brute
