For anyone getting the JAVA_HOME environment variable not set, a reminder is that you can set env. vars by right clicking on my computer and going to advanced and then there's an environment vars button.

It would be nice if you could do what you're trying to do though. Then you could take your OS with you and use any modern computer with your OS and your settings in theory.

  7. No customer service. on Best Buy Says Customers Not Always Right · · Score: 1

If you want customer service from them you have to twist and break arms and legs. Even then you have about a 25% chance.

I need to stop going in there. They've screwed me more than once you'd think I would learn my lesson.

The funniest thing was that I bought a compaq notebook from them and the next day I saw they had a sale on VPR Matrix notebooks (best buy exclusive brand). The matrix was a much nicer notebook for the same price so I tried to take the compaq back but I didn't buy the extended warranty so they wouldn't do it.

So I went home and modifed boot.ini to boot off of an invalid partition and changed bios to boot off of floppy and there was no floppy drive. Then I took it back to them for their techies to analyze. "Bad hard drive" was the diagnosis.

They took it back and I ordered my matrix. The funny thing is they lowered the price by $100 on the matrix the next day on bestbuy.com so I managed to twist and turn arms until I got $100 back. They were tired of dealing with me. "Bestbuy.com is not Best Buy the store, blah blah blah" I was like whatever I just want my $100 back. I finally got it. It took some time though.

These notebooks are really nice. I've got two of them. Too bad I'm tied to best buy for any form of parts or support. I don't think I'll buy anything from them again. I've said that before but now it's time to stick to it.

They are too busy chasing me down because I don't have a front license plate.

I've been pulled over twice in the past seven days so I think it's time to finally give in and install a bracket and the plate.

The second officer was very authoritative but seemed respectful enough so I asked him what the purpose of a front plate was and if it was suppossed to make it safer for officers. His response was something like, I have no idea, I think they're silly but the law states you have to have it so you do.

Seemed like a fair enough answer to me.

The problem is though when I call the police because someone has broken into my car or vandalized, etc. The two of three times I've had to do this I am completely blown off. Not that there is a huge success rate at catching the people that do these things but there's going to be a ZERO success rate if no effort is attempted at all.

I would have much rather had the officers there filling out police reports and taking fingerprints when I needed them instead of pulling me over and reminding me that our state requires a front license plate.

That's what I get for living in an area with too low of a crime rate. They make up unecessary legislation so that the police will have something to do during their down time.
