Here goes my Karma, and maybe I just don't understand how the anit-trust laws work, but the way Microsoft used it's brute force to slowly build an empire and weed everyone out. Isn't that what ALL companies are trying to do? Be number 1? Weed out the competition? Make mass quantities of $$$?
As a business owner it's hard for me to comprehend. In my line of work there is way more work than there is developers to do projects, so I don't worry about all the other developers out there.
However, ultimately if I could handle the load, I would absolutely love to be number one and weed out competition? Is that wrong? Maybe I need an attitude adjustment.
Not so much for the money but for the glory of being number 1 and having the best products and services and having everyone come to me because they know I'm the best.
I guess I'm looking at a company like Wal-Mart who kind of falls in the gorilla shoes when it comes to generic merchandise and even groceries. It seems like they've done a lot of pushing and knocked out a lot of local businesses here and there, but at the same time they've shown some restraint. Is this soley to avoid being nailed with anti-trust laws?
The only thing in my eyes that goes against Microsoft is that it's not like it was one man's baby that led them to the top. If Bill G. had developed the original software and been active in development all the way to now and it wasn't a corporation would it still be wrong?
Or a better question... If they hadn't done all the gorilla tactics of forcing other companies out of business and they had gotten where they are just by having a superior product (i'm not saying they do, I'm saying what if...) would they still be a monopoly?
I guess all these monopoly like tactics are things I take for granted as just agressive moves to win business. I'd be interested in reading over the actual law to see what it says you can and can't do.
If someone was sending spam and you reported it you would hope that they would lose their connection. This is no different except comcast is detecting who's sending the virus out and taking care of it without forcing the person to be reported.
Three cheers for comcast, I wish every ISP did this.
This is really obvious to anyone who tried to sign up for the beta test. They have to shut down any free versions of battle.net because they're planning on making money off of world of warcraft monthly fees.
I don't blame them but then again I'm not sure they should be able to shut someone down who created a free version of their proprietary online game engine.
"I beg to differ - one of the few things stopping me from purchasing a phone is the fact that I do not want to pay for hundreds of features that I will never use. All I want is an address book and a way to make calls."
Most companies are giving you the phones with all the features when you signup. What is a bummer is that you have to switch carriers every so often to get a newer phone.
I would guess that the majority of users are running linux on here but 50% or so have some version of windows they use to play games or let the rest of their families use etc.
My copy of windows is legit.
Disclaimer: These numbers are pulled out of my butt.
Microsoft was very smart... They're offering it for free which is a positive move for everyone assuming the EULA is sane.
However, they're also making it incompatible with 9x and XP Home meaning that all of the geek hobbyists on here who have a mix of *nix and windows machines and wanted to use it from home might need to upgrade their windows os to use them.
It's one of those things where I clearly recognize the privacy invasion, but at the same time it doesn't really affect me personally as I don't have anything to hide.
I can see it helping them catch bad guys. I guess I don't mind the Bush administration's FBI having access, it's the next Democrat administration that bothers me. That's true for almost all patriot act stuff.
If I knew we were going to have conservatives in office for the rest of my lifetime I probably wouldn't mind it one bit.
That sounds like exactly what I need. While I'd prefer to have those options available when I right click a link, I could learn (and maybe even like) the new setup no problem.
For some reason though none of those keyboard click combos are working for me in Moz 1.6.
I'll have to try it on my laptop and see how it does. I'm wondering if my mouse software is jumping in and messing things up. Shame since I use the same mouse on my laptop. heh.
I'll have to play with my pc some more. That sounds promising. Currently my mouse software or windows seems to be taking control as I get the option to switch from vertical to horizontal scrolling. Thanks for the tip!
Oh wait...

So how many developers are going to continue working on the newly licensed XFree86 project vs jumping to this new forked version?
What distros will continue to use XFree86? Any?
I'm on the same side as comcast.

There are lots of 91 escorts on the road. Pieces of junk? Yes, but they are still running.
Or Rouge for that matter?

My post should explain some reasons.
Some of these are a bit outdated and incorrect.
I have switched from Opera to Mozilla but I miss it sometimes.

Quick everyone in the US go setup 5 DNS servers!
Did anyone bother to read the details?
SCO hasn't been attacked yet. It doesn't kick in until Feb 1st and then it doesn't even go for two weeks.
How kind of virus writers to put a time cap on how long it does damage.
Two different ballparks.
Spamming affects my rights personally. File sharing I can simply not take part in.
It's like someone standing in your driveway shooting paintballs at you everytime you leave the house. That gets annoying quick.
But if some guy is growing weed in his house that's in a different city, that is something that you can avoid being affected by it.
I think a 50 / 50 treatment of acid and then salt would do wonders for them.
I purchased a copy of shadowbane used for $3.00.
Was I dissapointed after I installed it and downloaded 300+ mb of patches that it required a paid monthly membership. Not even a single player mode.
Now it sits in my closet. I never even got to try it out. I guess I ought to sell it to someone for $3.00.
I hated the few episodes of Dr. Who. I'd much rather watch Red Dwarf.
I was a kid when I tried to watch Dr. Who so maybe that makes a difference.
Yah, I've got my lastname.com too.
I'd hate to think that anyone could ever take it away short of me not paying the domain registration bills.
Luckily I've got a rather obscure lastname and the only person that might try to take it away is a family member. heh.

Microsoft's Site on 3.5 beta
You guys remember nissan.com?
It looks like Nissan Motor Company just about shut him down.
Somehow he still owns the domain name but he can't do anything with it.
Spills aparently aren't covered.
Brand new laptop, someone spilled coffee on it and certain keys stopped working.
Dell wants $650 for a new motherboard.

I must have something setup incorrectly.
That sounds like exactly what I need. While I'd prefer to have those options available when I right click a link, I could learn (and maybe even like) the new setup no problem.

That's close but not quite it.
I'd like to be able to still click and go to pages like normal but if I right click I'd like to have a third option of "open link in background tab"
The gestures seem a bit different but I must have gotten use to them as I don't fail too often.
