  4. Linksys stuff is aweful in my experiences on Temporary Wireless Service For An Outdoors Event? · · Score: 2, Informative

I have no affiliation with either company but the netgear products I've used were far better in quality and functionality than linksys.

The linksys WAP11s and WMP54g wireless PCI card were just plain terrible. Did not work as advertised. Doing WEP across two WAP11s in AP/Repeater mode causes instant lockup of the repeater. I spent an entire month on the phone with their Indian tech support until one of them finally admitted that it was a known problem that they've duplicated in their lab. Unfortunately after a month the vendors don't take products back and linksys refuses to refund my money so I'm stuck with the crap. On that note... if you DO want to use linksys stuff, let me know... hehe.

The netgears do it just fine. After I put the netgear APs in place everything worked well but randomly the linksys would just drop signal and nothing short of disable/enable on the card (from windows) or a reboot would bring it back up.

I finally replaced it with a netgear card and the problem is solved.

I've often read about some of the projects out there to roll your own phone systems. I've never spent the time to implement any of them because they all seem so complex.

What I want is a linux box that answers my phone and based on caller ID it has rules that tell it what to do with that call. Send it to voicemail, ring the phones, hang up, etc.

Can this be done yet? Southwestern bell has a $5/month service that will answer unavailable/private calls and ask the person to say their name and then ring you if they do. I would love to do this on my side of the network.

    Is it possible?

Unfortunately the new number belonged to some guy that is in huge debt with his creditors and they call constently. Also I forgot that I would no longer be on Missouri's no call list so telemarketers were calling quite a bit too. I think no call has kicked in because the calls seem to have dropped. The were almost all automated calls which is interesting because before the MO No Call list most telemarketing was done by live people.

If you guys want to organize a day where we call all the 800 numbers of spammers and junk faxers count me in. I've got a couple of numbers I've been collecting that I can throw into the pool.

Of course, Microsoft shouldn't have released a virus prone OS to begin with but it's an inherent flaw in their design.
