I wouldn't think they'd be hard to put out of business, or at least dent them enough to hurt their lawyers.
I've found that artists listen to their fans. If we can come up with a better solution for the artist I bet it wouldn't be that difficult to get them to hop on.
One thing I've done (that I'm kind of scared I've crossed the line) is put bad stuff on my address lines 2 and 3 for my domains.
For instance, on my main domain address line 2 and 3 are something like:
WARNING: DO NOT DELIVER THIS MAIL MAY CONTAIN A DEADLY VIRUS
So now when register.com sends me fraudulent letters trying to trick me into switching my domains to them, this is theoretically printed on the envelopes.
I'm wondering who would take the fall if someone threw a stink over this? Me for putting it on my address or them for sending the mail?
The real goal is to stop the spam from coming down the pipe.
Your method is potentially good for the end users, but you guys are still footing the bill for abuse to your network.
So why don't you do something about it pansies?!

All you lazy bums out there that give a crap need to do something about it.
Everyone says "new laws won't solve anything" but neither does sitting around doing nothing.
Contact your state reps today and complain about the spam abusing your network resources and bandwidth.
I had a conversation with a local spammer last Friday. His theory was that the 25 emails his company sent mine weren't going to hurt my bandwidth, so then I said, what about the other 100,000 jerks like you that don't care about my operating expenses? If everyone sends me 25 pieces of UCE everyday, who pays for that bill? He didn't have an answer. I sent him a bill for $50/incident after I sent them a warning. (after the first 5 were received.)
Why can't we have a clean internet? We deserve it! It's OUR RIGHT! I pay my $1000/month T1 bill for T1 bandwidth. After all the massive amounts of spam (mostly coming from Asia) who knows how much bandwidth I'm actually getting. I can't block Asia, I have some valid customers on the other half of the world.
We need to make spammers PAY! I'm so sick of spam I don't even care if it does start getting the government involved to the point of regulation.
I guess the next step is to go down guns blazing...
The state does benefit from the lawsuits, but I must say it's been nearly 100% effective for me since they started it.
I'm not a huge Jay Nixon fan, but I really appreciate him getting this program into effect even if it was mainly to benefit the state. That's just "theoretically" less tax money out of my pocket.
As far as the loopholes... I personally don't get any calls from companies that I did business with in the past. My credit card company has called a few times but after telling them to quit soliciting a few times they finally stopped.
Also, as far as the non-profit orgs calling, they did before too so you aren't any worse off. I have caller ID and I generally don't answer any calls labeled as private or unknown.
I agree with you, it's not perfect, but so far it's made a world of difference. I think most companies simply remove Missouri area codes from their calling lists as I think it costs them money to see if we're actually on the lists. Whether it does or not, it costs them some amount of time to compare their list with the no-call list.
I would love to get some confirmation though when I submit a report even though I only submitted one once.
If we had some sort of calendar protocol that could authenticate using some other standards and allow groups to login to their system with different access rights from windows/linux/java/everywhere I think that would put a huge dent in the side of exchange.
The Mozilla calendar is pretty sharp. It would be cool to see it evolve in this direction.
What should one do when a hard drive doesn't reliably hold data or stops spinning?
I always just chuck it in the trash, sometimes I take the time to beat it with a hammer just to see the insides and "quality control" the casing. I will say that Western Digital drives seem to hold up much more than any others I've smashed.
I'm sorry... I didn't clarify... I do use opera for my browser and OE for my mail.
Alright. 5 minutes later, I just fired it up and setup two accounts. I think they meant for it be a feature, but I don't like how it creates a new set of mailboxes for each account. I can see how it would be useful, but a lot of the time, the only reason I setup multiple profiles is so I can send mail out as Matt@domain or webmaster@domain, etc. whereas they all go back to the same account.
It let's me nest new mail folders so that's good. I had a bit of trouble deleting them using the delete key but I was able to drag them to the trash.
The filter seems exceptional, they have an awesome feature OE doesn't that lets you filter off of custom headers. All they need is regex filtering!
Viewing headers is easy, however... I can't highlight them with the mouse (or any other way) to copy them onto the clipboard.
The address book seems pretty decent, other than not being able to nest address books I didn't see any problems.
Mozilla mail does seem to load just as quick as OE. Maybe even quicker!
Thanks for turning me on to it, I might give it a whirl for a while and see how it goes. It might not take too long to wean me off of OE.
If anyone from the Mozilla team is reading, I'd like the ability to attach aliases to each account. So I could have as many @.com as I wanted per one set of mailboxes and just check the master.
This feels like it's straight from a Final Fantasy game. I can be a piece of Materia someday! Now all they need to do is figure out how to summon people back out of the diamonds for a whopping good time.
No, I don't mean the browser... I mean opera needs a seperate mail program.
I love Opera's browser. The biggest advantages over the other ones have been listed but one thing I haven't seen is that opera has nice PNG support built in. I don't think IE did until recently.
The thing I love about IE is that it's packaged with Outlook Express. In all it's virus/security flawed glory. I love it. It's fast and it's easy to use and the mail filtering is the best I've seen for a windows client.
Eudora just doesn't do it for me. Too slow to fire up and it just doesn't flow as nicely as I'd like. Opera's current mail system isn't too bad, but it's just not as powerful as OE.
The program doesn't necessarily have to be integrated into the browser.
I had a bunch of ideas I sent to opera about an awesome mail client but they never responded.
Another thing I'd LOVE to see is a calendar collaboration tool. Does anything like this exist as an external package that runs sharp and is easy to use? (under windows)
I got a C in Algebra and took Trig in college a few times and never could pass. So I switched to a different school and sneaked into calc and did okay.
I don't consider myself a dumb person and I do enjoy math, but I just couldn't get through trig for anything. I was stuck with the same teacher every semester but it was probably more my fault than hers.
Is it strictly off of record sales?

I used to send back "stuff" in the credit card companies pre-paid return envelopes...
You know, left over pizza, cinnamon rolls, dead batteries, etc.
I cut it out after 9/11.
I haven't flown in a few years, so I don't know how much flying has changed.
hehe. For the next 5 years anyway.
Does anyone know of a company that has a faster network than Savvis (savvis.net)?
They've got SLA agreements that I have never seen beaten for on network latency.

I don't know the first thing about small claims court.
Does it cost me money up front? If so, forget it. I'm so broke, it would be more effective for me to cancel my phone service. haha
Long story behind that domain name.
Kinda has a ring to it though doesn't it? hehe.
Check out this letter I got after reporting one:
Mo Junk Fax Response
I was a little disappointed to say the least. This fax was hitting me every morning at 3am.

I honestly didn't read through it yet but I was speaking about it to a friend and he mentioned that the license really locked it down.

I read his complaints and they seem valid.
Is his software good enough to act as a production DNS server? It seems like it but I've never even heard of it before now.
If BIND is so bad and his is so great, how come more people haven't switched over. Or have they?
He needs to get one of the big distros to package his stuff.
I've never heard that before.
I've never switched to alternic but I've kind of kept tabs on it a bit.
The biggest reason I haven't switched to alternic is because the internet can't work if everyone creates their own alternic.
At least not with current systems that are doing virtual hosting.
I've got 20 sites on one IP address...
I got a C in Algebra and took Trig in college a few times and never could pass. So I switched to a different school and sneaked into calc and did okay.

I'm curious why they need internet access.
