    I don't get it. Superior products, largest reseller of Nvidia cards... Where did they go wrong?
    I suppose financial scandal could do it, but was that the case?

    It seems like tech companies have a problem staying afloat. Is it because their workers demand unreasonable amounts of pay? It seems like they would simply pass that on to their customers.

    I mean it's a simple process...

    if we're all wore wearable computers and your brainwaves could be emmited over 2.4 GHz humans could essentially be "telepathic" right? haha

    Or better yet, everyone could wear IR transmitters and transmit the data themselves instead of having the brain-wave sensors all over the place, just have one per person.

    Then you'd have to be in direct line of sight to read each other's minds.

    He's actually a pretty cool guy. It's a shame to hear that he got cut, but it happens.

    I have a feeling that was his last chance to be part of Star Trek and I'm sure he'll miss it.

    I convinced one of my room mates to buy a wal-mart PC with Lindos to ween himself off of Windows. It shows up and it's nearly unusable due to all the crap they did to it. They've got this active installer where they basically sell you the ability to install applications. It really really sucked. He would have been off a ton better just installing the latest SuSE.

    The PC died before we could try it though. Took it back to a local wal-mart. Not sure what was wrong with the PC. It got to the point where only the fans came on. No beeps or video or anything and we didn't touch the inside of the box.

    I know I'm going against the flow here, but it goes anyway...

    I've read this and that about Ogg being better and I want to believe it, but on the few experements I've done. Ogg ends up taking more disk space and significantly longer to encode (using CD-DA XTractor under win2ksp3).

    Quality, I can't tell much difference if you force it at the same bit rate. Granted I haven't done a ton of testing, but an mp3 encoded at 160 vs an ogg file encoded at VBR160 just doesn't seem to produce much quality difference. (Maybe my altec lansing speakers aren't good enough?)

    I'm sure Ogg will only improve in the future as it's still kind of a baby compared to mp3 but for right now, I'd say Ogg would be at the bottom of most people's feature list. Maybe I'm wrong.

    I used to be one of those people.

    Recently I decided to install SuSE 7.3 from scratch with the intent of setting it up as a web, email and DNS server for a friend. I also installed X.

    Granted, I now have a lot of experience with apache, sendmail and bind9. It really wasn't required to get things setup.

    This wasn't even a brand new machine with the latest and greatest and everything installed without a hitch. Couldn't have gone smoother.

    I used to struggle with partitioning all the time. Now I have a Windows workstation that's seperate from my linux servers. I use it for the few programs that I can't get in linux such as Homesite and photoshop because I am too lazy to find(learn how to use) equivalent programs.

    Someone high up at Microsoft is mapping a drive across the net on their XP powered laptop.

    A theif grabs the laptop and takes it home, logs in as guest, gives himself administrator access, dials into the private microsoft dialup account using the saved dialup networking profile and then has access to the mapped drive and what else? VisualSourceSafe? Microsoft Passport backend?

    I feel safe...

    If you're using a airline that provides cheap internet access you can use the client mentioned in the story above. The NES roms are generally around .5 mb to legally download using the service.

    I really appreciate the info people are giving.

    I've been wanting to do this in my home for my small business for a while but I've never known how to do it.

    The features I really really want are:
    1. CallerID being stuffed into a MySQL database.
    2. Filtering rules for callerID to serve up special messages for special people.
    3. 44.1 16bit message recording. I know it's overkill but I have never found a home based digital answering machine that is even halfway decent quality. Does anyone know of one? I'm using a Sony right now and it's awful.

    From then on, everything else is just extra good stuff.

    I might keep in touch with you if you don't mind and let you know what I find.

    If the license is included with the source it's covered by copyright law.

    Also, if they absolutely must have a click through, do it on the web page that it's downloaded from. GNU has no jurisdiction there.

    I wouldn't have any complaints about losing the floppy as long as manufacturers included a bootable CD, and the system was also bootable from a USB based floppy drive.

    Almost all new machines have USB ports on them. That would give me a nice portable solution in case of emergencies.

    I did need my floppy recently. I don't have a CD-RW drive on my laptop and a friend needed a modem driver so he could get on the internet.

    I used a floppy to transfer the driver from me to him after I downloaded it.

    They've got expenses, bandwidth, servers, etc.

    Eventually they'll almost have to start charging, this is where I see game manufacturers possibly throwing a fuss.

    I guess if they're only charging enough to cover expenses they might be able to get away with it. But then again, since the rentals are based on the actual number of cartridges they have in stock, how is it different than if blockbuster rents out a game?

    I have tons of old cartridges and I would buy even more if they would back them up for me so I could play them on my PC.

    I would really love to play Clash at Demonhead again on the NES.

    I think this is one of the better ideas I've seen in a while. Since everything is stored on their server and loaded directly into memory, it seems very fair since they are accounting for the actual number of copies they have.

    I tried it out and it works great.
