Advertising is slightly different than free speech.
If I was getting spam about overthrowing the American Government, fine... That's free speech.
But when I get spam advertising unsolicited crap products (low mortgages, cheap ink, infinite supply of viagra) that I just don't want it sucks.
Here are some precidents (sp?) for ending unsolicited spam.
1. Missouri now has a do-not-call list. It's enforced. If a telemarketer gets caught calling my house, they get in big trouble. It went into effect a week or so ago I believe and calls have ENDED! Honestly!
2. When I get credit card(and other advertisement) offers in the mail. There are a few rights that I have...
a. I know exactly where they came from.
b. I can "usually" get off the mailing list.
I'm not saying necessarily that it needs to be government regulated, but we need to design and bulid an email standard that will stop unwanted mail with tough to trace headers.
Once this sort of mail server is in place it should also have the option of only accepting mail from other mail servers that follow these standards.
Being a small web development company in my area would screw me over if a big IT union came in and started posting their stupid billboards that said not to use my clients company because they used a non-union (me) company to design their products.
That's how the strong seperate from the weak... competition. If they can't do a better or equivalent job than my company can at a better or equivalent price, why should anyone buy from them?
I understand that the valley is an expensive place to live. So if you're out of a job and it looks like your going to tank, get the beep out of the valley!
I don't care if he's making 25,000 or 250,000. If you can't manage your money you're going to spend it all.
Anyone who was making $100k a year can't figure out how to sell anything that's sucking his money up and get a minimum wage job to pay the remaining bills while he gets back on his feet?
Money is money. Don't let pride stand in the way.
Those guys would rather be homeless looking for charity than take a "crap" job and pay some bills off.
It's very difficult to have one all encompasing real estate market.
It has to be split into different regions and sub-regions. I'm currently working on redoing a site for St. Louis real estate.
It's got a long way to go. We just bought out the parent company. I'd love to hear your ideas on making the best real estate site for a given area. What features are needed?
Your best bet would be to search for real estate in a given city.
I will be sad to see the day that Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes are replaced with front wheel drive super efficient/super slow cars.
Then again everyone thought the Muscle car era was over when the late 70s hit and right now you can buy showroom cars that do the quarter mile in 13 seconds or less. Maybe they will make a few fast ones in the future too.
My wrists would always be really tight after typing and it started to get worse and painful so I bought a wrist support from relax the back. It did an incredible job helping me out. It probably took about a month for it to go away completely.
This support actually attached to the mouse and moved with the mouse.
I picked mine up last week. All it consists of is a cable that has an RCA at one end as well as a female RCA plug to plug whatever was plugged into your TV/Stereo, then the other end has a stereo jack for your line in on your sound card.
They have software that listens for the "cue".
Couldn't we write the software ourselves and listen for the cue and then tell it to do whatever we want?
By the way, it does work across a 2.4 GHz wireless transmitter. Particularly X10 but they all should work. (It's simply transmitting audio so there isn't any reason it shouldn't.)
The movie was fun. Lots of action. Cool animation.
It's probably a little more for the kiddies. I bet if I was a little kid I would have thought it was the coolest movie ever.
1. Savvis has by far the greatest tech support I have ever dealt with. Their techs are intelligent. Their sales people are educated and they have a 24x7 live helpdesk. You call their line you get a live person. That person can escalate it to one of the many Technical account managers who are paid to carry pagers or cell phones around. Everyone gets the same tech support whether they're paying $100/month for business SDSL or $8,000 for DS-3. Even when I have general(yet advanced) questions about networking hardware or setup that isn't directly related to the product I'm buying from them, they are willing to answer my questions or find out answers for me.
2. Surprisingly HP. Their website is surprisingly helpful to find answers to oddball hardware problems. I was trying to switch a printer from parallel to USB and everything was recognized but it kept having some strange error. I followed the exact steps that the website described but had no luck, so I decided to call tech support and the tech carefully guided me through the exact same steps I had taken and the second time it worked. I felt dumb for looking like such a clueless customer, but regardless, he was able to fix the problem and it didn't take "too" long to get in touch with him.
Now here's some negative feedback... Southwestern Bell... You really have to make them think you're someone really important to get them to treat you like an intelligent human being. I've found that I have the best luck starting with business sales and acting interested in a product and have them find out about current issues that I'm dealing with. Starting on the tech support end and they immediately point fingers and don't want to find the answers to your tough questions.
First, I've fixed the problem since this morning. I only discovered it two days ago.
But maybe you are right.
Unfortunately small businesses have to start somewhere and we started with setting our own equipment up to the best of our ability which is constantly changing. We can't hire anyone that knows what they are doing until we've got enough flow to cover our own butts.
And I should clarify that spam wasn't sent out through my server, (I used the word relay but that was incorrect in the traditional sense of relaying mail), it could only be received internally if they forge the header and say it's from me.
So they could send spam to people using my domains.
I'm glad to see that spam laws were upheld in the courts. But this isn't the kind of spam that upsets me. The spam that I wish I could stop are the ones that come from Overseas and have every header spoofed and flood to random words@ hoping they find an account. It really sucks if they hit an account if I have a "catchall" setup.
I'm borderline ready to shut down all mail with.kr or.jp but that really isn't the solution and I can't do that because of customers that are e-mailing to people in those areas.
I can trace down the domain and block that domain but they will just find a new one. Whenever I try to contact a non-US sys admin they generally don't reply in English and nothing is resolved. I've had excellent luck with working with US Sys admins in the past. I'd like to think I've shut down some of the bigger spammers for the community.
My own mail server is guilty of relaying messages that have been forged to look like they are coming from my domain. I don't know how to fix it in sendmail, but I'm going to work on it today.
I'm kind of tired of how they have our people held hostage.
Maybe we need a war. Maybe it will get the economy going again. Nothing like kicking some stubborn Chinese butt to boost the morale of our country. And they certainly are asking for it.
We ought to show the world that we don't take crap like this lightly and bust them up a bit.
Shoot, if I knew for sure they were going to kick some butt, maybe I'd go sign up for the military so I could get over there and do my part.
We are about the only northpoint customer still alive.
Being that we're using them for business lines, I would GLADLY pay more money to have a stable service. I'm talking about SDSL not ADSL. ADSL is fine for the home user. Charge a bit more for SDSL and as long as it's bang for buck ratio is better than T1 I will buy it.
I am not a Northpoint customer, my line is from Savvis but they use Northpoint lines...
Therefore, indirectly I could really get screwed out of this deal if something goes wrong. Especially since I'm hosting sites.

I hope that in the future we can truly stop the kind of spam that has spoofed headers and is bounced off some non-U.S. mail server.
Is digitally signing every e-mail going to be the only way to completely stop spam?
For the companies that offer valid "opt-out" options, I have no problem with them as long as they work.
For the companies that offer "opt-out" options but don't work, they should be fined and both myself and the ISP get a cut.
What is the long term solution to ending spam?
If the government tried to mount a gps on every car and mail people tickets, they'd certainly think it was in error when they say my 1/4 mile times!

I figure you guys should know where I can get cheap phone wire, Rj-11 jacks, and rj-11 plugs?
I'd like to buy bulk so I'd always have some here but I can't seem to find anywhere cheap.
Get it while it's hot... Not sure how long it will be up there.

Please educate us on how we can use 8088s for dumb terminals. Did they have ISA buses to plug network cards into?

I'm in St. Peters, MO and still running amazingly.

I can't find anything about the movie which I'm almost certain is called Night of the Lupus. I can't find info on it and I can't buy it.
One of the cheesiest movies ever but it's a classic! About these giant killer bunnies eating horses and people. Great fun for everyone!

You can't convince the people that have a personal relationship with God.
