You seem to have mixed up two lines of that song. IIRC, the one is "it's worse than that - he's dead, Jim!", the other is "you cannot bend the laws o'physics, cap'n!".
In reading all your comments, the answer occured to me why today Bach is my favourite compositor and Escher my favourite artist (along with Kandinsky). The answer is: I first read GEB aged 16, too. Back then, I didn't get all of what it said, especially the Gödel part, today it's one of the books I enjoy reading again and again now and then. (And I still don't get everything.)
A research center I once worked for had an "Espressigo" - an Espresso machine built into an SGI Indigo case. They had received it as a gift from SGI for being such a good client. This thing was way cool!
I'd rather see some PowerRangers dropped from the 7th floor made of correctly coloured jello... With all Power Rangers fans standing in the landing zone.
We need to know how close hardware acceleration is to being a reality on Linux so we can plan on whether or not to use it as platform either for development or deployment of product.
It's quite close: Xi Graphics is doing hardware accelerated 3D in X-Windows with Evans & Sutherland gfx cards.

Can you imagine this.. You're on this hot date (The first in many years for some of you) and in the middle the date you go and check your email.....
Check email? No problem for me. I just put my Palmpilot with the IR port facing my cell phone and press "fetch mail".
All of those stories were cool, except for the one where the guy tortures a kitten with a Sun E10k... not my idea of 'cool'.
Not mine, either. Although allergic to cat hair, I am a wholehearted cat lover. How he described the poor thing being scared to death made me grind my teeth.
SuSE has been using a sort of registry file for a long time: In/etc/rc.config, all the keys like SENDMAIL_EXPENSIVE, SMB_START etc. are stored. The file gets processed by a bunch of SuSEConfig scripts which generate the appropriate config files like sendmail.cf, etc.
This is quite convenient, since I don't have to meddle with config files and startup scripts everytime I want to change a little setting.
About a week ago I sent in the URL (see above) of the slashdot-like site I created for German-speaking Linux users. "Linux BBS" offers Linux news, a web site catalog and in a few days also a hardware compatibility database.
Since I am looking for help in maintaining the site, I sent a message to slashdot - without getting mentioned ever since...:-(
If there won't be ISDN support in 2.2.0 because Linus refuses to include the lately sent-in patch file, this kernel version won't be quite useful here in highly-using-ISDN-Germany...:-(

...and the Graffiti E, and the Graffiti K. People must think I learned writing not until a few weeks ago...

Croc is also available for PC! With a Voodoo card, it's quite fun to play. "Ka-boom!"
If it just didn't play these guilt-inducing sequences when you fail or quit a game...

But what's that "date" thing you mentioned?

70 pages? With many big pictures, right?
The Frozenriver manual will be published - but they will ask around 50 Euro for it, that is quite a pile of clams..
It may be worth it - I don't know the Frozenriver manual. Where can I find it?

A click on "More on Quake" brings up the article "Quake3 Arena on Linux", posted by CmdrTaco on Sunday January 10, @07:06PM:
"Q3test, and later the full commercial Quake3: Arena, will be simultaniously released on windows, mac, and linux platforms."
Okay, this time the names are correctly written with capital letters.
