Is there some deep, personal clash going on here? Did Narayen steal Jobs' girlfriend back in college? I can't help but think that enabling Flash on the iPad would only help both Apple and Adobe. I wonder how much business Apple is losing simply because of this lack of integration? (Nevermind no-multi-tasking or no camera or no wide-screen). Why give people one more reason not to buy i?
I tend to agree with you. This is M$ we're dealing with and any chance to take these naps out of context is going to be jumped on. If there are bad practices going on here someone will find out and justice will (hopefully) be served.
No, I never said one way or another. I'm not questioning the authenticity of the images anymore than some of the other people who are doing so blatantly and without supporting data, I might add. I'm simply providing information so that people can look and decide for themselves.
If you look at the EXIF data on any of the images you can see Photoshop tags placed in the file. Not sure what if that means some "manipulating" was done, but I'm not sure why PShop was needed unless it was to change the format from TIFF to JPEG (which was done). It won't let me post the entire stream here but this is/., I'm sure you all know how to get the info yourself.:-)
Are they going to fix the accuracy issue where if I look up a street address it's off sometimes by half a block? I can certainly see this being a good thing later down the road but not for any application that requires accuracy.
Both statements are true (except about the 1/3 part...it's much less). There's no shortage of women here who can't wait for the next "Purse Party" so they can get their $75 Coach purse that would normally cost them $600 (if you're paying 1/3 the cost then you're getting ripped off). And the women who sell this shit are making a KILLING. Then again, get caught and it's federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison time.
I GUARANTEE you those are not MS-brand mice. They also make Louis Vitton purses and Chanel sunglasses in the same factory.
The Asians LOVE America but do not want to pay for the over-priced stuff when they can copy and make it themselves. There's a huge market over there for knock-offs. Do a Google search for Chinese fake products.
I wonder if this gene will be once of my choices when I go to create my ideal baby...right along with perfect vision, perfect immune system and a 9" penis.
I agree the quality of the samples were pretty bad, but I think the point was to show that the technology is out there and can be developed further (provided they get enough investors) into something usable and practical.
I work in an accounting firm and I can totally see this being used to scan documents and other related material to send to clients for quick sharing and transfer of information. Sure, you can walk it over to the scanner and email from there, but anytime you can keep a user at their desk then you increase the efficiency and work-output. That's just one possible scenario, of course.
How about in the medical world? You could use this to scan MRI's or patient history files and import into a shared database. Or maybe specific articles in publications that can be scanned for research. The billing dept. could place an encounter form on the desk and the system could recognize the form-type and drop it in the patient's file for later submission to the payer resulting in faster reimbursement to the Dr. I'm sure someone else could think of even more practical applications...
I'd be very interested to demo this product once they make advancements.
Sort of. Mother's maiden name is not in there, but favorite color, childhood best-friend, favorite sports food...etc. Stuff you could guess if you really knew someone, but not exactly stock-questions either. You do get three attempts at the three questions (they change each time) and after that the account is locked and then you have to practically give a DNA sample to get it unlocked.
People, in my organization at least, are forced to change after 180 days but they only change to a slight variation of the previous one. Ex: old password=Password1, New password=1Password. Sure, you can make it so no part of the previous password be used, but they always find a way around, thereby making it quite easy to guess.
Now, the military has a completely annoying process, but I think it works pretty well. It not only makes your 10 character alpha-numeric + symbol password change every 180 days, but you have to answer 3 questions that it randomly pulls from a survey of about 30 questions you had to take before you can even log in. That, or use your CAC (common access card) along with a PIN, but that requires a smart card reader and their proprietary client.
The short: No one method will ever be secure enough; you need a combination of methods to make things as safe as possible. Even then, the most skilled hacker will get your shit and there's nothing you can do.
He accidentally withdrew $305326.13. Must have put a decimal in the wrong place...he's always messing up some mundane detail like that, from what I understand.
I concur

Yeah sorry. I got into that habit back in 95 and haven't been able to break it since. I'll work on that for you.

Makes sense to me. I wasn't accusing one way or another, really...just noting that it was there.
Actually, I was able to get it in HTML. Someone take a look and see if it tells us anything....

That's right. Here in America you are guilty until proven innocent. (Fuck you grammar Nazi's, I know what it means. You'll mod me down anyways.)
How long before someone creates another Internet where "The Man" can't go and fuck it up?
Yes. Flaccid.

...these goddamn videos are the worst. At least the folks @ /. are having fun, I guess.

I know, same here! It made me realize I've never had a conversation with a girl on web cam that didn't, at some point, show me her tits.
