    It's already been said in other posts but to summarise:

    It's not just Read Only (which can be achieved easily with syslog), it's the ability to return requested data quickly that the critical thing with SOX et al.

    If someone says they want to see information on item X, you HAVE to return this imformation in hours not days or weeks.

    This is where the commercial products have spent their time, developing fast search capabilities over the data they collect.

    Certification is also important. Ie product X has been shown to work and works like this..

    Equally your choice to live 100 miles from school and drive a big car no doubt:-) You'll get other benefits from your lifstyle.

    The US is dirt cheap to live compared to the UK, please no complaining about 'gas' prices or any other price. A basic Ford Focus costs around $23,000 (and thats a 1.4litre engine too), list price in the US for nearest equivalent car is $13,000 (and with a 2 litre engine too)

    Taxes are only part of the equation for other stuff. We live in 'rip-off' Britain, welcome to the real world..

    When you guys in the States start paying our 'gas' prices then you can complain, otherwise please be quiet

    (cheapest around my area at the moment is $7.37).

    And yes it would make a difference to how much you get in the tank, F1 used to do it and was banned.

    This isn't new. For years (decades) many large defense and government projects have all the source code, documentation etc stored along with a computer all setup with the required software in order to read all this stuff.

    What's new is the fact businesses are starting to realise they have the same problem.

    This is big problem with data protection laws in the US. There's lots of complaints about this sort of thing from the EU, and some slow moves to sort it out.

    But until you get decent DP laws there's little you can do...

    Isn't there some legal formality that if you don't protect your patent should you find a violation (ie do this in a timely manner) you're case will get dismissed.??

    If you go Dell make sure you go lattitude for laptops and optiplex for PC's, and get the full 3 year warrenty (accidental on laptops). the 3 year warrenty is worth it's price, esp on displays - a laptop display will cost £600 to replace if it gets cracked.

    The onsite warranty for the 'home' range isn't as good and harder to get someone out to fix.

    For me the extended warrenty is the big selling point over HP.

    Yeah right - how may microphones are out there? How many will stay in circulation. You guys in the states want 'freedom to carry arms', how about "freedom of speech".

    Sorry Won't work. Can't control guns never mind microphones/speakers etc.

    A technical solution will have a technical bypass Period.

    Sigh.

    I agree, until the DRM algorithms get implanted in the brain there's always a way around it - microphones!

    Waste of time and effect.

    In fact the current situatuio is worse than no DRM, as the music co.s think they some "security" when they in fact don't.

    turn off the anti-spam system, now say what spam? Even with it on you should be looking at the stats of what its blocking.

    We've all had to invest some conbination of money, resources and time to this problem.

    It's a pain, more for some that others, but it's still costing us money in way in order to block the stuff..and yes it's getting worse.

    oh I usually sat 1GB ram per CPU core too for spamassassin.

    And Blocking unknown recipient email addresses on the MTA before calling Spamassassn=in can drip over 50% of the traffic too..

    HI

    you'll need to tune SA to get the best out of it...you have to keep upto date.

    first make sure you're running 3.1.7 and have "sa-update"-ed to get the latest rulesets.

    Now add in the SARE rules, fred and Jenifer rules from RulesEmporium. You can keep thiese update by using RulesDuJour to download and installed updates.

    Then add in some things like DCC, razor2 and pyzor.

    Keep monitoring the SA-users email list for new updates etc...

    You can't hit a moving target with a fixed gun! You need to keep moving.

    Once you've you sa-update and rulesdujour going, you'll just to update SA when new releases come in, so it's not a big job after the initial hit.

    I've found the SARE rules, dcc, razor2, pyzor and Fred's rules have the same effect without the the big performance hit of fuzzOCR...

    YMMV of course.

    Question is how long will M$ let hardware vendors (Dell, HP, IBM) etc ship XP rather than one of the mirriad of Vista versions???

    I bet in 6 months you'll have severe difficulty finding a new PC with XP on it...

    another 6 months and you'll have problems finding XP on the shelves.

    Extra rules from www.rulesemporium.com, use dcc (free if you're reselling the service), make sure you're running SA 3.1.7, and get yourself on the spamassassin-users email list.

    Spam fighting is not a set and forget sport ;-(

    I suggest further tuning of Spamassassin - make sure you've got 3.1.7 the SARE rules, fred and Jennifer's rules from www.rulesemporium.com, URI-RBL's running, dcc and Razor2.

    This is the setup I've got (and some more custom rules) and we hardly see any spam in the inbox.

    Get on the spamassassin-users list as ask for further advice, if your still stuck

    Was talking to one of remote offices in Continental Europe last week, and the boss was complaining his docking station for his laptop didn't work..

    turned out his keyboard was broke due to him smashing it on desk. Apparently two of the 3 people in that office are also on their third mouse in a year!

    nothing to do with Websites, just M$-Windoze giving hassle - mind you they had problems with their Macs previously as well...

    Apply the the standard, Threat/Likelihood/Impact risk model before you start on these things.

    So you block Ms-Word, what's the threat (and it exploited yet which is Likelihood) and finally what's the impact of the threat. Now apply this your actions. ...

    Another thing I'd say various IE issues are more of a risk than little exploited (to date) in Word.

    Given the time you are spending, the impact you're having on the business, is your 'fix' worth it?
