Just what Doubleclick needs. Not only can they attach your address and personal info to your web browsing, but they can also keep track of your cell phone usage.
So, theoretically: I could buy the FastTrack 66 for $65, flash the BIOS with the Ultra66 Bios, resolder R9 onto R10 and have a $20 Ultra66 controller.:)
But seriously, I think it sucks that a company can sell two identical products, with the only difference being 1 resistor is moved and a different BIOS, and more than triple the price for one of them.
I understand how this can be useful in a business/technology environment running CAD or other calculation intensive programs, but really, I don't see a whole lot of use for this in the consumer market.
They're going to be really expensive and what's the point? So you get an extra 10 FPS in Q3Arena, honestly, I can't tell a difference between my 450 and 550 computers in Q3. One gets about 10 FPS more but it's not visible, they both look about the same. Apps will load a little faster but is that worth the price? I don't see programs coming out that have system requirements for 1 GHz for quite a while so I think I'll stick with my 550 for a while.
Actually, that's an AP article, not something that a local reporter wrote. You can find the same article on MSNBC, FOX, WIRED and any major news network that subscribes to the AP. Hell, check your own newspaper today and you'll probably find it.
Just think, if the chip has Windows installed as the embedded OS, we'd be in trouble. I'd hate for a critical bio-organ to have a fatal exception in the middle of doing something.
Oh shit, my heart has stopped responding. It may be busy waiting for the End Task Dialog box to come up. Press any key to wait or Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart.
Actually, if someone did that to my site, I'd be flattered. They aren't passing it off as their own, just putting their stuff around someone elses and giving them credit.
OK, I don't think that from the first 3 replies, my point got through.
The post I replied to asked what my bank and my accounting department is running. They are running beowulfs. I wasn't saying that beowulfs are god, or that they can replace mainframes, just that in my case, his examples are wrong.
Q: A mainframe is NOT a thing of the past !!! What do you think manages your bank account, possibly your salary, certainly your IRS account and probably your pension fund ???
A: It's called a Beowulf Cluster. 10 PIII-550's. Total cost $30,000 as opposed to a 6-figure mainframe. IRS though, well, they're just a wastefull buracracy.
Simply put (even though I'm sure other people will probably find some problem with it - they always do:):
A Beowulf cluster is a way of setting up network of computers to symetrically process data. With enough computers in the cluster, you can equal the processing power of a small supercomputer.
Well, the sig and the name are both from Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail but the idea of antiKwsNI comes from Scot Adams and Dilbert. Scot Adams took flak for making Tina too feminine so he brought in Antina for a while to be an anti-feminine character.
I think also that it has something to do with the MPAA's lawsuit over DeCSS.
The RIAA is screaming bloody hell over CD pirating. Then the MPAA comes in and says "hey, look at all the problems we've had over people ripping CD's. This is why we need to protect DVD's: So that we don't get the same problem". This is especially true since many of the companies have a vested intrest in both the RIAA and the MPAA (Like Sony).
I think that the music industry is booming in part because of "pirated" music. Honestly, I've purchased a couple hundred dollars worth of CD's because I really like the MP3s that I've downloaded and I can say that a number of my friends have too.
Let's boycott Amazon. Oh wait. Dammit. I already am.
What's up next? Hasn't IBM already patented eCommerce or will Amazon try to patent that also. How about.Com? Oh wait, Sun has that... WWW? Maybe they'll just patent accepting credit card orders.
How about getting the patent on their "Comments" section where other people can post comments about the item? Hmm, maybe they could make Slashdot stop using comments then. Then where would all the trolls go?
How about enforcing their Amazon name and make Brazil rename that damned forest? Would that be asking too much? After all, they've gotten away with patenting the obvious so far...

Yeah, right. If they read my e-mail in a court, they'd probably let me off just because they felt sympathetic for me.

Just as long as I still can watch those BBC (British, non-American) broadcasts of Monty Python, who cares?

Yeah, it's kind of like free beer and free mugs...

How well would these work in conjunction with a USB network? Don't USB networks operate at 11MBps? (Or is it 12?)
