    Yes but thing of the horrible things the store could do with this information.

    They're know what you like to buy when you're in the store! They could send you all kinds of terrible coupons and special targeted deals on things you buy all the time. The horror!

    It's like 1984 only more like 1994! Great shopping deals will be the downfall of humanity!

    I've been asking them to get rid of the Start Menu for years and they finally did it with a recent release.

    I hope they remove networking capability next and maybe add more DRM.

    Virtually all commercial open source projects require copyright assignment.

    Oracle sued Google because Google took over the mobile market with their Java variant.

    No one has been nearly as successful with Mono, so Microsoft hasn't sued yet. Since Microsoft is dropping .NET for future projects, chances are they'll never get a chance to assert their .NET patents against a successful platform competitor.

    You're stuck using windows with C# and web development. ASP.net is not part of the .NET standard, there's been some attempts by the Mono people to clone it but it's not remotely production ready.

    Java is open source and cross platform. .NET is closed source and runs only on Microsoft platforms.

    Someone big needs to jump into the desktop area with both feet and Linux will win.

    Look at virtually every other computing market: servers, mobile, embedded, etc. Linux dominates.

    They're working on a competitor called "Shaft."
