Wait a minute. I have a real example of a newbie using scripts. When I got quake 3 I only knew a little bit about writing scripts, but i did download a script made by some guy that "created" a zoom feature for quake. So there, scripts are usefull for newbies in some cases.

In Halo and Tribes 2 you get to drive vehicles and fly choppers, and in team fortress 2 an engineer can build a machine gun, then two other players operate it (one loads it, the other one shoots).

Not just from an engineering point of view, they should also fix that incredibly ugly interface that QT4 has. The reason why I usually download mpg or asf is because I can't stand the interface of quicktime.
You are making one mistake in you're argument. If people want games and internet they can buy a PC, but PCs are not cheap and maybe a person wants to have as many set-top boxes as TVs (its not common for people to have at least two). Also, these boxes don't take up much space, Who would want to have a desk with a PC in every room of their house?
Gamers know a lot more about technical stuff than normal users. Remember the gamers are the ones who usually run servers (for games), make maps, mods, etc.
