you are forgeting another large marker. Home computers. in this market i people use the office software that came with their computers, but they spend lots of money on games, joysticks, financial programs, educational programs, etc.
Clock speed does matter, but its useless to compare the clock speed of a PIII with the clock speed for a G4 because they have been designed differently. It only matters when you are talking about chips of the same type
OH, yes of course. They are pure evil. All this time, making us think they wanted to port their game to linux they really wanted us to help them make more money by fixing the mesagl renderer, the x libraries and the audio libraries. There is only on question left. What will they do with the billions of dollars they will make from the bug fixes?
When i upgraded from win95 to win98 my pnp devices stopped working, so i had to install them after the upgrade, but to get my mouse working i had to change my cd-rom from d: to e:(?). I also now other people who had major problems upgrading.
This sounds like a game console with usb. Anyway, i think that the only thin clients in homes will be consoles with a few more features that hook to the tv or to a monitor.
Listen, I am a 16-year-old video game junkie and I think that 21-year-old (and older) people who drink are doing more harm to society by killing people when they're driving than me playing quake and not letting anyone else in my family use the computer for a couple of hours.
Whats wrong with censoring a person who posts 10000 horizontal bars? Their opinions don't matter because it's just a bunch of lines and servers cost money(buying them and maintaining them).
Maybe its because linux is trying to enter markets like the desktop while freebsd has always been intended for servers. But, who cares? there are only a few hundred million persons running desktop computers.

Compiling the source may not be the best idea with larger programs(or groups of them) like kde or gnome. An installation should be short.
