And why is that our problem? Because you decided to have 4 kids you dont have time to look after properly makes it OK for the state to infringe on our liberties?
The website and another linked to the Department of Broadband and Communications were shut down for long periods yesterday after their servers were overloaded.
Both websites were offline again this morning.
A group of hackers calling itself Anonymous has claimed responsibility for the interruptions, which it has called Operation Titstorm.
Anonymous claims the attacks are also to highlight moves by the Government to ban the import of pornograhy featuring female ejaculation as well small-breasted women, over fears such films were simulating child pornography.
Critics say the Government's internet filter amounts to censorship and will slow down internet speeds.
The Government says the filter is necessary to block websites containing child pornography and other criminal activity.
Although the proposed censorship crimes mentioned are heinous (seriously child crimes are so wrong on many levels), we need to be wary of people who have ulterior motives to stifle the free flow of information.
If you have seen the blacklist you know its already too late there.
No, there is no way to get rid of Conroy from the Senate just like getting rid of Michael Atkinson at this years S.A. elections doesnt look like that can happen. The only way we can dump Conroy from a realistic angle is if Tony Abbott (who's history shows is just as bad) takes over Rudd as PM, then Conroy will be an Opposition spokesman.
Me? Im voting for the Australian Sex Party for Senate with Greens getting my House of Reps vote. If lower house ticket only has Labor & Liberal then my ticket is going in the bin.
I actually did when I recently moved, I chipped in for their bill and connected to their AP until my line was ready (which took 6 weeks thanks to some dodgy cabeling in my area)
This is a very specific patent and most certainly wouldn't cover sudo, but rather the automatic detection of the need for it and a very detailed description of the GUI built on it. It's almost like the people writing about the patent didn't bother to read it...
Its not the first time and wont be the last. The US believes fair competition is free competition while the EU is more about making sure theres an even playing field and as many competitors as possible.
The EU has a thing against monopolies in the market and they view Oracle owning MySQL as closer to monopolisation.
Despite myself being a left winger, I dont think the database should be an issue, because the MySQL community could easily fork it and compete with Oracle (Mambo/Joomla anyone?).
Im actually supprised Google is not defaulting to HTML5 with flash as a backup (detects web browser and makes a decision) as Google seem to be big on HTML5 as they are involved in the process. Considering (newer versions of) Firefox and Chrome support it, its a way Google can get people onto it. Sooner or later IE will be the only one not supporting HTML5 and a move to that technology will proberbly force Microsofts hands to include it, especially considering the rumors the next IE will use Webkit.
I downloaded the ISO for Kubuntu this morning, I hear nice things about KDE 4.3 so after 5 years Im finally switching back from Gnome.
When I was looking on the site and I found something amusing: Kubuntu Karmic Koala... KKK... I was thinking "Surely they saw this coming a while away!". I found it amusing.
Now fingers crossed I dont get dependancy issues for Citrix client like last time (had to wait for a new version of the client last time).
Neanderthals primary were in Europe and the middle east. The 2 likley canditates of current ethnicicities with possible Neanderthal DNA would be Arabs and Caucasians.
Actually the first time I heard of Ubuntu was when someone at uni was handing them out. I was a SuSE user at the time and have been using Ubuntu ever since. About a year later I ordered from ShipIt 50 CD's and distributed them around both uni and work and yes in the process got some people who "only knew Windows" to switch.
It was more than anything a way to get people to promote the distro when most people would have just glanced over the name and not give it a second thought.
Did you the same thing to Apple when they got into the music business? or in the phone business?
Android has alot of potential, ChromeOS I am yet to be sold on the idea of cloud based desktops but time will tell. Lets not forget Apple made computers and operating systems. What are they doing in the music business? Or the Phone business? Because there is a market there. Do you really think Apple is entitled to a monopoly?
My contacts at Red Hat say that F12 will be the basis for RHEL6, only they plan to do some additions like they are pushing to get btrfs out the door in time.
A standard user account doesn't exactly have alot of control to begin with. The way Windows does things is they open up access and lock things down while in the UNIX word its all locked down and open things up (i.e. sudo)
Your point is only valid if you want to prevent a use from changing his wallpaper, screen savers and the like. There are (expensive) tools out there but dont handle very well.
Also in GNOME you have gconf and can put custom settings into a SOE very easily.
If you left out the GNAA/Goatse link you proberbly be modded funny.
Speaking of Goatse, I am kind of sad to hear McBride go at this point in time because I was looking forward to debt collectors doing something like that to him.
Your machine was already borked if you had Me on it.

If China jumped off a bridge, would you follow him?
Ask Kevin Rudd that, I would be interested in his answer.
You know theres an entire anime genre dedicated to that sort of thing
So it seems.

Something akin to "golly gee we're not sure what happened but we're looking into it".
Mr Bean works for PayPal? Well I guess that explains alot

I thought that was our Govts job (Australia) to be the official buttkissers of the US Govt and lobby groups

Sounds like stuff most distro's already have.
Thought police? Surveillance? Culture of fear? I thought we were discussing the United Kingdom not East Germany.
Orwell's 1984 was set in London

Yes, the Apple devices will be pretty
Maybe its just personal taste but I find the HTC Magic a better looking device than the iPhone.

or most administrators are "Windows Trained" and wouldn't know the steps to lock it down
Why would you hire a Windows admin (and by I mean Windows admin I mean only knows Windows) to work on Linux?
Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. Forfty percent of all people know that
