  1. Re:Lucky Phone Numbers on Portable Phone Numbers = Market for Cool Numbers · · Score: 2, Informative

For those that are not Chinese (or asian), Here's the cantonese side of the story:

8 (eight) is 'baet'' which 'sounds' like how one would pronounce 'faet' which means 'fortune (rich)'

2 (two) is 'yi' which 'sounds' like how one would pronounce 'ye' which means 'easy'

4 (four) is 'sei' which 'sounds' eactly how one would pronounce 'sei' which means 'death/die'

So if your number is 8888888 or 282828 for example, it means good fortune.

If Your number is 4444444 or 242424, it's means bad fortune (easy death) and avoid it at all costs.

You'll find Asian people will choose numbers eg:

    Phone numbers
    Fax numbers
    Street numbers
    numbers plates on cars

    etc.

Will people accept this new standard? Who will manufactures trust: One Government/Country, or a respected body encompassing more than 380,000 individual members in 150 countries..promoting consensus-based standards?

Look how much is spent on 'physical' security and you will see why. A Government agency that is physically attacked (eg bomb, chemical, bio) usually results in human casualties/lives...and is very hard to cover up.

Now look at attacks on computer security (eg cyber attacks, worms, compromised systems). A Government agency that is 'electronically' attacked 'APPEARS' to not result in human casualties/lives.

Notice I stressed the word 'appears' in my last comment. I say this because it may be the real situation OR it maybe we don't know as previous cases have been covered up...as it is easier for an organisation to cover up these types of attacks.
